This isn't a big deal, give him the C and re-up his deal in 2018. No crystal ball but o think wheeler plays a long time in WPG. If they draft and develop at their current pace they will attract players. That's how it works.

I'm glad we have Wheeler but i have never liked him and dont want him to be the Captain!! He plays hard and gives a poop but at times you still see that he has that same selfish, immature me first attitude that I dont like. Still the same kid who refused to sign with the team that drafted him.

To Ross77 (still can't work the quotes)
The team that drafted him 11 years ago? The guy who has shown not one single flash or evidence of a "me first" since he signed with Boston? That guy? There is no one else on this team I would rather have as captain. This is Wheeler's team, you can see it on display every game. In the same way Chicago is Toews' team. He has been the Jets captain since the start of the season last year. Just waiting for it to be official.

Why is this Wheeler's team? and is that actually something to brag about when your 4th last? Every time he talks about what he is doing and what he can control, and how he suggests he would prefer a win now mentality by management shows his "me first" attitude. We obviously disagree but please don't put him in the same sentence with Toews ever again, one is all ready destined for the hall of fame and the other, will never be

He's been the one that talks to the media. Wheeler and Little (who is completely underrated to the point it's almost offensive) have carried the offence for years (Ladd too). He plays hard game in and game out. He's willing to drop the gloves, he's defended teammates, and he elevated his play even more (somehow) come playoff time. It's Wheeler's team because he is the best player on a rising young team that has shown himself to be a leader even more than Ladd has in the last couple years (and I have never had an issue with Ladd as captain. He was awesome). This team is more likely to be 4th from the top than from the bottom in a season or two, and that will be in large part thanks to him.

I'd rather Shiefele being give the Captaincy now. when Wheeler says he doesnt know if he'll be here in three years, thats all I need to hear to not give it to him. Fefe will probably sign a 6-8 year deal so why not give it to him. Sheifele will have will have as much to do with this team climbing in the standings as Wheeler! As will Buff, Hellybuck, Trouba, Ehlers and so on and so on.

Wheeler Captain, Scheifele gets an A as does Lowry or Trouba....Buff has no interest in any letter which is fine.
Wheeler knows that we trade Captains if necessary and he also watched one of his best'ies leave a lot of money on the table.
Any Ladd lovers still think he is getting more than $36 million this summer? maybe just a new agent.

I agree he has been the captain for 2 seasons (at least outside the room/media etc). it makes sense to have him in a leadership role going forward,

I have been one of Wheeler's biggest critics since the Thrashers relocated to Winnipeg. However over the past 2 years her has shut me up. I really like Wheeler and think he should be given the captaincy. The guy is a heart and soul type of player.

I hope the Jets re-sign this guy for the remainder of his career. I will also say the same about Byfuglien. I was one of his biggest critics as well. I am glad he is on our team.

Wheeler for captain. No doubt whatsoever !

One does have to wonder what Ladd and his agent were thinking.

I'm not entirely convinced Trouba will be here for long depending on his asking price and whether or not he can actually learn to play the left side. Buff and Myers are both better players and Postma has been surprisingly good. I wouldn't be at all opposed to moving Trouba for literally any top 4 lefty (and whatever else you can get. That second pairing is a huge weakness on the left side). He hasn't improved since his rookie year (may have actually regressed since then) and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't concerned.

I have never understood why people think Trouba has regressed? his stats for the past three years are almost identacle. I agree, I wonder if he'll be here long term but i for one would be very scared to trade a guy with his skills and potential, he is still just 22!! Have to disagree about Postma, I just dont see an NHL Defenceman there, never have.

Have to agree with Ross about Postma. If he is in our top 6 next year, we have a problem.
