Niemi was named Sharks player of the year. I understand the decision behind this. I see it mostly as a PR move given the level of praise DW has given Niemi since we face him in the playoffs and given he is our most recent contract (4 years @ 3.8 million). Plus Marleau has already won the last two seasons so it's not like he needed another one. But here is my case for Marleau as MVP anyways:

Points - 73 - 1st (15th in NHL) --- Runner Up: Thornton - 70
Goals - 37 - 1st (6th in NHL) --- Runner Up: Couture - 32
GWG - 9 - 1st (4th in NHL) --- Runner Up: Couture - 8
OT Goals - 3 - 1st (2nd in NHL) --- Runners Up: Couture & Clowe - 1
GP - 82 - 1st --- Runners Up: 3 Players - 80
Forward ATOI - 20:47 - 1st (12th in NHL) --- Runner Up: Thornton - 19:52
PPG - 11 - T-1st (12th in NHL) --- Tied with Heatley and Pavelski
SHG - 2 - T-1st (16th in NHL) --- Tied with Thornton

-As with the all-time franchise records, Marleau led the team in almost every statistical category

-Marleau had fewer PIM than any other player on the roster that played more than 50 games.

-Marleau plays in every possible situation for the Sharks (PP, SH, 4-on-4, etc.)

-Marleau is one of our top defensive forwards (he has been in the top 10 in Selke voting the past two seasons)

So while I don't have a problem with Niemi as MVP (he would have been my pick going into February), Marleau deserved it more.
