i think his point is that 2010 AD is generally thought of as 2010 years after the birth of Christ and so "there is no year 1" implies that 1 AD would be 365 days after Christ's birth (1 year after rather than at the start of the year)

Its the difference between seeing the present as 2 thousand-ten years, 8 months, and 12 days, and 9.33333 hours after the birth or as being IN THE 2 thousand-tenth year after christ's birth

2 ways of seeing it:
1) like with a child, they are not 1 year old until they have lived 365 days (there IS a year zero)
2) The start of the Julian and Gregorian calendars marked the birth of Christ as 1 and started counting from there so that 1 year after his birth, we were actually at 2 (there is NO year zero)

a child doesn't "turn one" until day 365, but that whole year is it's first year. nobody would say it was in it's zeroth year of life.

good. they work on the gregorian calendar here so its year 2010 rather than 2010 years after the birth of christ
