It's a Gibson Les Paul that has a lot of the wood removed from the body to make it semi-hollow. Gibson makes a guitar called the ES335 that's a purpose built semi-hollow. The reason people like the Les Paul is because they're very dense and heavy and produce a very "fat" sound. They average ~9 lbs whereas a guitar like a Strat is ~8 lbs. It might not sound like a lot, but it is. If you remove a lot of the mass from that it's going to fundamentally change the sound.

i have an epiphone les paul if that counts. it's the light sunburst one. i bought it because it's signed by all the members of soundgarden.

Epiphone is essentially a cheaper Gibson. Usually made overseas as opposed to the US like Gibson. Just like Squire is a cheaper Fender. Neither are knockoffs, they're fully licensed to use the designs and names, they just use cheaper materials and labor.

And honestly, you can get a really solid Squire for $200. And even upgrading to all US Fender parts you'd still come out ahead.

i also have a gretsch double jet (electromatic) that isn't signed by anybody. i just thought that one was a beautiful guitar. it's black with the pearl pick guard and the bigsby.
