guys, henjoying the tonewood freshies again. just wanted to mention again how got damn good this poop is for a beer made around the corner.

real real good.

so i just did the weekly zoom happy hour with the fam and i bought 2 new beers for it. i shall talk wrexcessively about them here.



we'll start with the flying fish hazy bones.

again, there are so many great breweries popping up in south jersey but the one within stone throwing distance from my house has to be the one i like the least.

first of all, it looks weird. no other hazy ipas look dark like that (it's strangely dark). secondly, taste-wise, it's just not a hazy ipa. way malty. no fruity flavor even though they call out pineapple and mango in their schpiel on the can, as if you can just word this shit into being a hazy ipa. i call bullshit.

also, it says it's good until 9/20. that's a problem right there. they don't even seem to understand how beer works and they make and sell beer for a living. it's 5/1 and i already have it in my fridge so it was probably canned a month or so ago. IPA's are at their best for like 2 or 3 months, tops. after that it's russian roulette as to whether it's going to be drinkable or taste like a gut-wadding loaf of badly baked pumpernickel bread, but either way you won't be tasting what they intended you to taste after 3 months or so. at 5 months you'd really be pressing your luck, and they're saying this is good for 5 months. maybe they just already know it's poop in the first place. so (frank) these people.

anyway, it's bland and entirely unremarkable.

next up, double nickel weekend warrior. you kind of expect it to be a 4.5% session beer with a name like that but it's a nice ipa just under 6%

another south jersey brewery and a much better one, double nickel is from pennsauken, nj and they make pretty good beers. this one actually does have a nice fruity taste. maybe some apricot, which is always cool.

not too heavy, not too light. just right.

i'd give the double nickel a solid 8.0 s2tp's but the flying fish was a bust to me so i'll give it a 6.25.

it's not super fruity and it's not super bitter or anything particularly standout like that. it's just a really good beer that makes you want another before you're even done the one you're drinking. this beer makes you plan ahead. so it teaches you responsibility. every parent should buy this for their children. that's just due diligence.

i'm pretty sure the voodoo ranger on the can is just bruce springsteen. just sayin.

so i had my first good beers since carbohydrategate started in like (frank)ing march.

i had a tonewood freshies at the house (visited some fam for the first time in a long time, distanced of course) but before that we went to the pour house (outdoors and also distanced [and 2 dogs were there!]) where i had a Tonewood Revolution porter which was really good and chocolatey tasting. 8.1 S2TPs.

but the real winner was the 3 Floyd's Brewing Company's Zombie Dust. wow. just wow. fruity, earthy, piney but not too piney, bitter but not too bitter. this was a real good ipa (maybe apa?). i'ma hafta giver a real high score. probs 9.4 S2TPs.
