goose island ipa x3

i have no picture because it was on tap.

it's a more than acceptable ipa. better than average i'd say. it's like a 7.8 s2tp type situation.

it's finally cool out.

my first fall stout is a founders breakfast stout. same as last year but at a different bar.

look at that beaut.

however, something even better happened. as soon as i finished that i ordered a spellbound (Mt. Holly, NJ, biitches!) palo santo wood aged porter and it was (frank)ing ridiculous.

the only way i can explain it is that it's an experience. you can't sit and drink three of them and you shouldn't anyway. each one is an experience. there was so much happening.

i don't normally gush like that but i actually thought this beer was amazing for just some bullpoop local brewery or whatever. it's 9 S2TPs, definitely. i'll give it like 9.05

i stopped in a rip off liquor store and paid too much for booze for the second time this week just because it's on my way home.

anyway, their selection also kind of sucks. real spotty. i ended up with this. Lagunitas 12th of Never.

i mean maybe a regular old ale (technically, it's an american pale ale) just doesn't excite me anymore or something but i'd label this just pretty good for some reason that i can't put my finger on. nothing life changing like i'm always hoping for. it's fruitier than you expect so that's cool. like juicier. and it is nice and overly hopped like you know i want it. right off the bat, before you even taste it, you can smell that it's even hoppier than you were expecting. so.. i don't know, i mean it's good but i'm just not excited for some reason, if that makes sense to you. i guess i just want my yellow beer crisper and even lighter than this nowadays? i'm pretty sure it's just me.

in any event, the can is cool. it's purple as shit. and there's a dog on that beer cap. you know how much i love dogs. oh, and on the other side of the can it's reversed with the beer cap on the bottom and the words on the top for no apparent reason. i'm not even sure how i noticed that. lastly, it's a TL;DR can, sort of like this beer review. there's a ton of poop written on it. a wall of text runs down the side of the can. (i read it)

so it's good. or pretty good, i guess. would i buy it again? nah. i don't think so.

still pretty good is pretty good and the lagunitas people have not let me down yet. i was late to jump on their bandwagon but i was watching them the whole time and i'm glad i eventually got around to trying them.

so double nickel has a nice session ipa.

and it's good.

it's got the hop pop that i like and it's just as drinkable as a session ipa should be. real clean and crisp. nice carbonation. pretty good beer.

i'd like to circle back and bump the score for this up a little bit. this is a really excellent little beer. such a good taste.

i'm drinking my last one right now and i will go to that same overpriced store and buy this same beer, probably on tuesday.

just finished up a 4 pack of the dogfish head 90 minute and i know i'm supposed to love it but this was a gift and i think it was old or something. just all malty and honestly kind of a struggle to even drink.

same thing happened to me with oskar blues ipa and it turned me off to it for good. i'm afraid to try it again even though i know that i'd probably love a fresh one.

someone gave me some rogue dead guy ale. those little skeleton guys glow in the dark supposedly.

anyway, it's definitely good. it's not my style i guess as i seem to crave a bitter snap to all my beers now. but if you like this kind of thing this is a pretty good one. it's not like i won't drink them. it's definitely a solid beer.

says it's a maibock style ale, whatever that means. it also says "liberal use of bittering hops" though, and literally 90% of what i get from this is malt. so maybe they just write gibberish on their cans.

now about that can. i don't know how long there have been glow in the dark skeleton guys on the can and i guess it seems pretty gimmicky but it is a cool looking can all on its own. it's just flat black and silver. even the top of the can is black.

anyway it's probably 7.7 S2TPs

now they also gave me this.

they meant well. and they were extremely generous. they literally gave me a box full of beer. my feelings on these holiday beers are well enough established here that i don't think we really need to relive it.

now this is a brewery that i have come to love dearly so i went in with as open a mind as i could muster. i took two nice sips. i pretty instantly knew what was up but i took the second sip anyway. i let each sip rest on my tongue a bit to make sure i would have an accurate description.

and then i dumped the glass in the sink.

it's definitely not as bad as some of the other christmas beers i've had and i could have finished this if i had to but life is too short to drink beer you're not enjoying.

i got cinnamon and maybe brown sugar or something like that. and it hits your mouth like a soda would. it instantly made me think of rc cola or a&w root beer or something. it's a very weird looking beer in the glass. brown AF. can't really see through it. not like a stout or a porter. just brown.

anyway, i bet it's real good if you like christmas beers. but i gotta giver like 5.5 S2TPs, personally.

additionally, i was given a 6 pack of the harpoon christmas beer. winter warmer or whatever.

i think i've had it before and it has words like "cinnamon" and "nutmeg" brazenly printed right on the label.

i left it at the house where the party was. i literally just got up and walked away from it.

are you afraid?

cause i'm afraid.

i don't know what this is supposed to be all about but it says it's a product of belgium and that it's a "malt beverage aged in oak casks with natural flavor added (cherries)"

it tastes like tomato juice, vinegar, spoiled seafood, and cold vomit.

the smell makes me think of two things. rotten vegetables and a dumpster in the summer.

this is a sickening beer that i would swear up and down was spoiled if it didn't say "best before 2019-02-11" right on it.

this is the one i've been most looking forward to.

maine beer company's peeper.

and once again, i was right to be excited. i'm so (frank)ing smart. that makes like 313 times in a row i've been right about something.

so it's obviously an american pale ale. i always thought you get less citrus out of a pale ale from the northeast than a pale ale from the west coast but this definitely has a real nice amount of grapefruit taste to it.

it's really carbonated and it's crisp AF. and it was less than a month old so the hops and the bitterness were right on. perfection.

real nice beer. big winner. 8.7 s2tp's
