i have craved the strong bitterness of a hardcore ipa lately but all the ones i read are real hoppy have been disappointing to me when i got them home (although i am finishing up the evening with a resin right now, and that is nice). i am actually currently researching "high ibu" or "bitter beer" or whatever in another tab, trying to find one to try next.

on a barely related side note, i am on a mission to see if the small liquor store gets fresher beer than the large liquor store. a ton of beer in that shopping cart picture turned out to be old beer and i blocked it out the best i could but i died a little bit inside.

you just need to find a store that consistently sells out of their beer. guarantees fresh stock

it seems like a lot of the lower abv hoppy beers kind of go a little wimpy with the hops to balance it but not this puppy.

nice.

that's what i want right now. a nice overly-hoppy beer that doesn't have to be 12%

mmm yes. the go to ipa is hopped like a regular ipa, it's one of the best "session ipas" i've had. wizard wolf from bellwoods here in toronto makes the best i've had. it's less aggressive but it's really really fruity and good.

i know. it makes sense that the smaller store would have fresher stock too. but these two stores are 3 miles apart on the same road. they have the same name and the same sign but they are owned by two different people (hard to explain). so i figured they get their beer deliveries the same way so maybe somehow it wouldn't be too staggered somehow. i think it was wishful thinking.i wanted the bigger store to be better because they had such a selection. it was like walking into heaven in there. i have spent an hour in their beer aisle multiple times.

the big store has this crazy beer selection and a singles aisle, which i love so i can make my own mixed 6 pack and try 6 beers in a week. the small store is closer to me, but always had a smaller section of cool interesting beer. i notice they are getting better though and just dedicated an entire second aisle to the craft beer section.

this would be easy for me. i'd buy all the belgian style stuff at the stale store and buy the ipas at the fresh place. mmm pre-aged beer

i was thinking of something along the same lines. get all my porters and stouts at the big store and all my ipas at the small store.

a 4 month old porter is fine. but a 4 month old ipa may not be.

a 4 month old imperial stout is probably better than a fresh one!

against my better judgement i am now having the last oskar blues ipa. sort of as a mercy killing i guess and sort of because i just wanted another beer.

it's 13 months old! they sold me a 13 month old ipa.

i should sue them. or at least fight them in the street.

random useless story time

Apparently Left Field Brewery now has a decent IIPA. It's called Laser Show. It's a pretty funny brewery, it's in an old industrial warehouse in an alley in a residential area. My favourite coffee roaster is right beside them.

Their neighbors were actually being whiney babies a year back due to noise though. Umm, you bought a house that was right beside an industrial zone. You pay less property tax as a result. Suck it up. That alley used to be sketchy as (frank) before they moved in so if anything the brewery probably raised the value of their homes too. Every single person on that street seems to own a Porsche Cayenne. Seems like an important detail.

i knew something was off. that's why i couldn't do an "expert user review" after the first one.

then i tried to say nice things (because i love the brewery) when i reviewed it but i didn't give it a score.

it's a bad malt bomb at this point. it even smells bad.

just finished the last carton brewing 077XX

as i've been drinking them i read reviews and whatnot and beer guy was right, it is pretty highly acclaimed. but i don't know if i got a weird batch or what but, while it's good, there's some kind of sidecar taste. there's just this other little taste that comes with it and seems to just be stuck to it. and i'm just not a fan of that little sidecar taste.

it seems okay. maybe it's just the higher alcohol that i don't like but it's not like it's a 10% beer or anything. and it just doesn't feel like it's the alcohol content that's bothering me. i think it's actually pretty well hidden.

it's a jersey beer and i tried it. i won't buy this again but i'll try some of their other stuff if any of it is priced a little more reasonably than this (this was the 4 pack that cost me like $13.50 or whatever it was).

I used to like them when I first started getting into the "craft" beers but can't say I've had them recently.

I liked watching their tv show on esquire or something like that.
