samuel smith oatmeal stout

big ol bottle. don't remember what i paid for it but from what i understand whatever it was will be worth it.

dark as poop. you can barely see light bulbs through it. smells like a stout should smell. chocolate, some coffee-like smell, like walnuts or something, and some smell i can't put my finger on. caramel or toffee or something. like those riesen candy.

it's an unbelievable stout. no idea how i wasn't already aware of this.

tastes like dark chocolate, maybe toffee. nice sweetness but not too much. nice thick, delicious oatmeal stout.

don't know if they always carry this but i'll buy it whenever they have it again.

TADCASTER BIITCHES! i don't know what it means but it's a cool as poop word.

this is a 9.2 s2tp beer.

it's not as thick as a lot of others. this was a big bottle but i see it comes in 12 ounce bottles too. i'd say i'd drink 2 or maybe 3. it's only 5% too.

Stone Ripper San Diego Pale Ale

dark for a pale ale. tastes more like an ipa than the last one.

very nice. definitely juicy, they're right about that. nice sting on the tongue, nice bitterness.

i'd say both of these beers are winners and that jan 22, 2017 was a good day. a successful day.

8.35 s2tp's for this one

had one of the oskar blues ipa but it was weird and i wasn't paying enough attention.

more to come..

- kicksave856

okay the oskar blues ipa is another interesting one. it's no dale's pale ale, but it is very good.

also the can looks like a comic book cover and i like that.

i like this brewery and my liquor store always has a lot of their beers to choose from so that's exciting too.

tbf, it was months and months old and had zero hop flavor to it so i clearly didn't get the intended taste.

That's what is annoying about IPAs. Too fresh and they taste like cat piss, stale and they lose all their hop flavour. When the LCBO gets new IPAs from California the first shipment is pretty much always 6 months old and pretty poopty.

i have craved the strong bitterness of a hardcore ipa lately but all the ones i read are real hoppy have been disappointing to me when i got them home (although i am finishing up the evening with a resin right now, and that is nice). i am actually currently researching "high ibu" or "bitter beer" or whatever in another tab, trying to find one to try next.

on a barely related side note, i am on a mission to see if the small liquor store gets fresher beer than the large liquor store. a ton of beer in that shopping cart picture turned out to be old beer and i blocked it out the best i could but i died a little bit inside.

it seems like a lot of the lower abv hoppy beers kind of go a little wimpy with the hops to balance it but not this puppy.
