he's just learning. been a wine drinker all his life.

he knows what he doesn't like ("ipa's taste like soap!") and is feeling his way around to see what he does like. i know he'll like lagers and pilsners and stuff like that because the only beer he knows from growing up is the usual stuff your dad would have around like coors and pabst and stroh's and poop like that.

gonna start working with him soon on the american pale ales versus the IPA's and how a california pale ale won't taste like soap to him just because pale ale is written on the label.

That's good work out of you......that place is great. So. Much. Stuff.....plus down the street, the Beernerds at Birra can help educate him and the food is good

If you like strong porters you need to try their Baltic Porter if you ever see it. It's top tier

Yeah, they’ve become so much better since they’ve brought in their new brewer.

Got my hand on a couple of their DIPAs a couple of weeks ago... Mmmmmmmm

you see what had happen was

the Sixpoint variety pack (Samplifier!) didn't last me very long so i was supposed to go to a baby-related party today but instead i went to the liquor store.

for not being real sure about the Resin because of the higher abv i sure did buy a six pack as soon as i saw one.

also, the Luponic Distortion in a six pack! i had to hide the erection right in the middle of the store.

also needed to try the Firestone Pivo "Hoppy Pils" so i grabbed that too.

Oskar Blues hasn't let me down either so i grabbed their IPA which i hear good things about.

beer guy told me i HAVE to try this Carton Brewing Company until i felt like i had to buy some so i asked him which one to get and he reached right in and grabbed this 077XX Double IPA and put it in my cart.

in the singles aisle i grabbed the Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout because i just read great stuff about it within the last few days and i went out on a limb and grabbed this Firestone Opal Saison at beer guy's recco, even though i know i hate that style of beer, so that one's an experiment.

i went with the 077XX first because it says it's from new jersey.

that's not really why i chose it.

anyway, it's serious about its hops. it smells like some kind of field of grass and it's bitter AF, which is sort of what i was in the mood for.

its got a unique taste to it. it took a few sips to get used to. very different. after the hops punch you in the mouth you taste orange and grapefruit but it's like a creamy kind of fruit taste, not like other crisp hop beers with that snap at the end. it has a warmth to it more than it is refreshing.

personally i kind of want the snap at the end but other than that i can't find anything wrong with this beer.

seems very solid. but it was expensive enough that i noticed the price. most 6 packs here are $8.99 to start up to like $11.99 for the better stuff so you normally don't even notice what you paid. this was $13.99 for four 1-pint cans.

my pivo is a week after the best by date but whatever.

it's yellow. very very light. very bubbly.

it is kind of exactly what they say it is, a pilsner with a more emphatic hop taste than you expect.

not my favorite that i've had by them but still real good. i don't think these are the same hops that i'm used to either. something definitely tastes different.

okay the oskar blues ipa is another interesting one. it's no dale's pale ale, but it is very good.

also the can looks like a comic book cover and i like that.

i like this brewery and my liquor store always has a lot of their beers to choose from so that's exciting too.

alright this is the one i was really excited about.

luponic distortion revolving hop series (#003!)

apparently this recipe changes every so often and this is the third recipe. they say they're doing different things with the hops or are using different hops or something. but i'm just starting to even know some of the names of different hops so i don't know what they're talking about.

anyway, this is weird because i just recently talked about that grapefruit taste and this beer has none. it's not piney or any of that. it smells like it's going to be and then it just isn't. it's got the bitterness you're expecting and the dryness but it has none of the taste that i normally associate with a hoppy beer. there's a tiny bit of citrus somewhere but like orange or lemon and the main taste is some other kind of fruit that i can't put my finger on. it might even be some kind of melon or something. i'm thinking of a fruit salad so i feel like it's one of those ingredients.

really good taste. very interesting. smooth and easy to drink. it's 5.9% if you're interested in that. i would buy this regularly if they started to carry 6 packs in my store.

Lovely selection.

You can now buy six packs in beer stores in the great state of PA and the one on my way home from work will be selling mix-six packs. This is very exciting!

A few years ago you could only buy cases (if there was a "case" of (2) 12 packs, you had to buy both of them).

A year or two ago they changed that so that you could buy cases or partial cases (you could now just buy 1 of the 12 packs in that case). But they didn't sell 6 packs. Those were available in restaurants that you could buy to go. Also some select grocery stores had 6 packs and mix-6 packs you could buy.

Now those beer stores offer the same conveniences as restaurants and grocery stores where you can now buy cases, half cases, 6 packs, and some you can get growlers from the tap.
