Did a vertical tasting of this with about 8 friends on saturday evening, sampling a bottle from 2011,2012,2013,2014,2015 and 2016.

The 2016 and to a slightly lesser degree the 2015 could use a few more years in the cellar. Very thin. If you're going to buy a 2016 this year, cellar that poop.

The 2014 started to get a bit more going on. The wheelhouse was 2012 and 2013, very difficult to tell a difference between these two, and all of the nice chocolate and spicey tastes were really noticeable. Damn good.

The 2011 seemed to take a step backward, not sure if aging longer than 5 years is a bad idea here, but interesting either way.

Paired with all sorts of pickled things and salty cured meats.

Nice, a supermarket in Quebec had a Unibroue sale recently, every 750ml, from Blanche de Chambly to 17 (2014 vintage), being sold for 4/$18 ($CA, so about a one US buck). Got a whole box and will cellar most of them.

always got the feeling that it'd do well after a few years just like terrible. la fin du monde and trois pistoles are better after 1-2 years as well.

DEAR GLUCKER:

10th anniversary at the pub today, they pull out special beers they've been saving in the basement for these things. supposedly a dogfish head 120 they've had down there since 2007 or something is one of them this year.

now here's a beer with my name all over it.

at least that's what you would think. but of course, as it is a pumpkin beer, it would be tolerable at best to me.

sticking with the new belgium theme of not making bad beer this isn't a bad pumpkin beer at all. little too much of that god damned holigay spice taste but whatever. i mean that's what it is.

i've had much much worse.

i also had another samuel smith's organic chocolate stout which is the most chocolate flavor i've ever experienced in a beer.

it tastes just like a hersheys chocolate bar.
