Heavy Seas Peg Leg stout

Very dark. So dark. Nice chocolate taste up front. Slight coffee/smoky flavor at the end.

8.6/10 ST2Points

Brother in law, nice guy, mistakenly thinks IPAs are my main beer jam. (Like them, but not my main jam). Anyway, he got me one of these:

Pretty good, on the sweeter side.

It's weird how that happens. I was pretty excited to get it again and when I finally took a sip.. meh.

Also stuff like Bass Pale Ale, Newcastle, and Boddingtons. I use to be all over those and now they just taste like water to me. There's nothing wrong with them but they aren't anything special.

There's something wrong with all of them. They aren't Fuller's ESB or London Pride.

Just picked this up today... haven't tried it yet but it is very interesting by the description... I imagine that it will be either fantastic or putrid... Since it is a tad pricey, I'm hoping it's the former... I'll report after I taste it.

Pumpkin is usually an Ale... The fact that this is a Porter and that it has Chocolate in it is what is so interesting, yet so odd... I like Chocolate Stouts, so I'm guessing that you are correct and I'll love it... I just want to make sire I drink it with the proper food and situation.

Not for nothing, but Porters are of course, Ales.

If you like the sound of that, I might recommend Warlock from S. Tier - Imperial Pumpkin Stout.

Of course Porters are Ales... but from all I know it is a very different style Ale, and one that is not the norm with Pumpkin Ale. That of course is not to say that it is not brewed as a Pumpkin Ale... merely that it is not what is usually the case, to my knowledge. The Pumpkin Ales that I'm used to are lighter and crisper than what a the case with Porters.

The combination of Chocolate and Pumpkin in a Porter Style is what pulled me to it... and enticed me to pony up the extra bread to try it. I will keep the Warlock in mind and keep my eye out for it though.

Sarah Baicker raved about 'Hell or High Watermelon' Wheat... so I found some and expected it to be a crisp sweetish beer -- not that that is what I usually like, but there's a time and a place for everything... I always say -- I expected a Seven and Seven sort of Wheat. it was not in any manner sweet and was actually a bland tasting canned beer... To be fair I did try it at Passyunk Avenue Bottle Stop without food... with food it should be much better... but still it, is far from what I expected... and certainly nothing to rave about. I did pick up a can to try with a meal though, just to double check.

... BTW, I'm nit a fan of canned beer... although that seems to be the rage now and even Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is sold in cans now. Canned beer seems to have a different taste to me... I like canned soda over bottled but not with beer... FWIW.

I'm on the fence with Hell or High Watermelon. It's a nice beer on a hot day if you want something with a little more flavor than a typical light beer.

If I wasn't expecting a Watermelon flavor I wouldn't have been so disappointed... I'm not a fan of lighter style beers but do love Wheat Beer when flavored with sweet fruit, such as Blue Moon on hot summer days.

That said, In Sicily I had an excellent light beer that I found perfect for the climate there... it is panned by the beer snobs, but I would buy it for the Summer here if I could find it locally and it was reasonably priced:
