croydon cream ale is just beer.

it isn't bad. but it isn't anything great.

it's crisp and you could drink a hundred of them in a row. it tasted grassy or something. but not in a bad way. it looks just like coors light or pabst blue ribbon in the glass just with more head. thankfully it tastes better than coors light or pabst blue ribbon.

i would drink it if i (god forbid) had to be outside in the summer.

EDIT: just noticed they call it "american lawnmower ale" on the can, so i guess it is indeed meant for being (god forbid) outside in the summer.

i was wrong about ellie's sucking.

i believe i have officially found the only 2 truly great brown ales on the planet.

the dogfish head indian brown ale and now this.

this is actually a really really good beer and i will buy it again.

was it nfph that decided he liked the dogfish head one after being apprehensive? try this one too.

I generally don't like brown ales, but I'd try DFH if there wasn't something else that grabbed my attention. The number of excellent beer halls has really exploded around me in the past couple of years, which is such a beautiful thing.

I'm drinking a can of this right now. It's the first time I've had it in a few years at least and it's so damn boring. It does show how far Canadian IPAs have come along though since it was at one point one of Canada's best.

Does that say Lithuania?

If they have it here I'll buy it just to add another country to my list.

Original review from 5/21/03. My God. I figured I had experienced bad beer. However, I had never had a Zhiguly Beer. Now that my eyesight has returned, I can write this review. This "beer" pours a cloudy, dark gold. On the downside (one of the many downsides) there are particles of God knows what suspended in the liquid, like hundreds of little stink bombs just waiting to explode in your mouth. I know this is normal for this beer because folks at the Central Market in Plano have posted a sign on their cooler explaining that this is normal. In other words, we don’t want this filth back! The head was incredibly vigorous. This, and the fact my tongue didn’t melt, saves this beer from getting a "1" rating from me. I was mesmerized by the head. At least it was interesting to watch, kind of like a wildebeest being attacked by a lion...it’s a fascinating sight but it’s probably a bad idea to get in the middle of it. The odor is not inviting. There’s a strong aroma of caramel and brown sugar. The flavor is not good but not the worst in the world...maybe it’s just the worst in the western world. Roasted malt dominates the flavor...as in I can taste nothing else. There is no balance because there’s nothing to balance. It’s easy to juggle one apple. The mouthfeel is disappointing only because the incredible carbonation evident at the pour has dissipated to nearly nothing. It’s also a bit disconcerting because I expect the mystery particles to get caught between my teeth. I would hate to think I would have to floss after drinking a beer. If this is what I would have to look forward to if I ever visited Lithuania then I think I’ll go to Latvia instead. From this point on, I shall refer to this travesty as "liquid cancer."

Yup Lithuania. One of the few places exporting here. If you want to try a Lithuanian beer that is passable (for a lager) try Svyturys Ekstra if you can get it. They have a wheat beer too, but it isn't great.

That sounds way less offensive, I'll grab one if I see it.

I'll cop to ordering this because of the name, but it's actually pretty exceptional. Super well balanced, tart fruit and very drinkable.

well the style is pretty heavy. really strong flavours and often the alcohol isn't well integrated which can turn people off. peche is one of the "smoother" ones out there though. it's well balanced in terms of dark fruit sweetness and coffee bitter and the alcohol is dangerously hidden.
