How was Oktoberfest?

It was great. We spent 1 1/2 day in Munich, and it was more than enough.

We arrived in the afternoon and weren't able to get seats in a tent, so we went back the next day at 10, and finally found places. After a couple of 1L bocks and a plate of German cold cuts, we proceeded to snore for an hour in Olympiapark.

It was a great experience and I'm glad I did it, but now I just want to go back to Munich and enjoy the city without the 5M tourists.


Visited Cantillon and Pilsner Urquell and did the Oktoberfest. The bucketlist is getting shorter and shorter.

I think I liked the 8 better than the 12. But my opinion changes every couple of hours.

Went on Friday afternoon, so they didn't have eveyrhing. Could get a couple of Mamouche, Fou'foune, Lou Pepe Kriek, Gueuze, Kriek and Rosé de Gambrinus. Also had a bottle of Faro, Iris, Grand Cru Bruoscella and Zwanze 2012 and 2014 after the visit.

My favourites were the Mamouche and Zwanze 2012.

Yes. A bit disappointed though. Waaaaaaay too many tourists. De Halve Maan was awesome, but the whole city was way too crowded - in October, nonetheless.

We liked Gent way better.

Yeah, was a bit surprised, as everyone was telling us it was among their favourite cities.

But at least I found a couple of Rodenbach Caractère Rouge at an acceptable price.

FYI, to save a bit of cash, if you do return to Munich, consider staying out of town, and taking the train into Munich, as the train ticket can also be used on the transit system in Munich. As you know driving in a large city like Munich is manageable, but finding places to park can be impossible.

We stayed in Freising, north east of Munich, a small walk-able town, and the train ride to the main train station in Munich was about 45 minutes.

Bottled my hoppy rye saison yesterday. Gave it four weeks of fermentation. Was probably a good idea, as I got a 97% attenuation (1,060 to 1,002). 7.6%... Oops.

The sample was a bit too ethylic to my taste (and well... for a saison), but I'm optimistic it will fade during the maturation.

Still, very citrusy and yeasty, with a slight sourness. Seems like a keeper.

My sister found the one LCBO in the GTA with Aventinus Eisbock left (Bramladesh where they drink Johnny Walker Red), 17 bottles. She is getting a really sweet H&M gift card for Christmas this year! 30 bucks.
