Some are good. A brewery in Montreal makes a pretty great one. Actually very, very drinkable. Smells like ham, but it's not too "in your face".

i can't find that anywhere.

people look at me like i have three heads when i ask for it.

but, actually i don't even know if it's as much the 10% as the taste i'm not into here. i'm definitely not digging the 10%, but it's more just a taste i don't like.

i always want to say "maybe i got a bad batch" but at $4.47 for one bottle i'm not gonna try it again.

- kicksave856

I can't drink beers over 9%. I hate the taste. Last one I had was Goose Island Muddy Imperial Stout. The alcohol just over powers it.

For sure I like them, or at least some of them. I also like smokey scotch and smoked tea though.

A few years back at the DDC tap takeover at Volo I had a Dieu du Ciel smoked porter that was really nice too. Haven't seen it since.

A lot of the time smoked beers suck but it's not because of the smoke, they're just bad beers.

i've had some that were high in ABV that i still liked. sometimes it seems well masked somehow. but for the most part i have bad luck with high % beers.

as i find my wheelhouse it seems to top out around 7%, give or take a fraction or two. but there are definitely some exceptions.

i just think it hides the taste of the beer most times and i want to see what the beer tastes like. i like beer and i'm interested to taste a new beer so it disappoints when i feel like it's overdone with ABV.

there's a dogfish head world wide stout right on the shelf at the store and i hear great things about it but it has 2 strikes already 18% and $9 for a 12 ounce bottle.

7% is about right for me too. I usually have one or two Troegs Mad Elf during the Christmas season and they are 11%. They still have a strong alcohol taste, but you also taste cherry and chocolate.

There's a few cases of Dogfish at my beer distributor store that sell for $100+

Just send it to me.

But yeah, the alcohol burn is strong, reminiscent of bourbon's. Really intense - you don't want to drink a bottle alone.

Higher ABV beers are usually more flavourful so I prefer them. The strongest I've had was a 16% beer and while it was a bit boozy and syrupy I still really liked it.

Unibroue will release a new beer next week, the Resolution. According to their sommelier, it'll be a dark brown, extra strong, lot of spices, very balanced, a nice, big Unibroue beer like they haven't released in some time.

Maybe it was because I was too young, or get sick around cigarettes, but that was the one I tried and puked
