First beer was when I was 12. Coors. LoL. My legal age was at 14 at least in my house hold anyways. Family BBQ's if you wanted a beer drink up. No biggie. But didn't know what good beer was or started to really like beer on a hot day till about 18 too.

What we meant Zero, was that it was legal for us to go to a bar and order at 18. Gotta remember, we're a couple of old pharts.

Back in those days (before they changed the drinking age), bars in Buffalo were open from 6am until 5am. They closed for one hour to clean the floor, and reopened.

I am your age, I do remember when the legal went to 21, there were some pretty PO'd 18- 20 year old people. Being in Buffalo the kids go to Canada, drinking age 19 there.

It really hasn't changed much, last call is 4am, you can drink until 5am, reopen at 8am. There are quite a few places that never close. You have to remember that Buffalo was a steel and auto town built on 3 working shifts. The people from 8- midnight left the bar at 5 and the people from 12-8 were just getting ready to go out in the morning.

I will be going to Canada next summer. Have been wanting to go for a while. My buddy was born and raised in Canada (came here at the age of 24 for a wedding met a girl got married and now lives here) he told me I should go to Montreal to party and such. This a good suggestion or should I plan on going somewhere else?

You will not be disapointed with Montreal, pretty and friendly women and just a bunch to do. I know you're closer to Montreal than Toronto, but if you have enough time make sure to check out TO as well, great city.

Crap I don't know any French. Maybe I will pick up some before next summer. Yeah I hear Montreal is fun. So I guess that's my frist stop. Maybe the year after I can go back and visit the HHOF.

If you hate traffic gridlock, high prices concrete jungles, stay away from both Montreal and toronto. Both those cities are just to big, in my opinion.

If you come to Ottawa, you can experience both Ontario and Quebec in the same place.

It all depends on what you're looking for. I love going to the Adirondac Mountains and kicking back, also lived in Boston which is a great city and loved going to NYC. Ottawa and Quebec City are wonderful places if that's what you want. Zero lives outside NYC I'm sure any of these cities will be more laid back.

Yeah a hop and a skip. 20mins on the Path can get me into NYC if need be. I was told Montreal had a really good night life but there's also things to do during the days things to see. My buddy didn't go into specifics but I'm sure during the day there's got'ta be some nice stuff to do and at night I can party.

Edit : Basicly what I'm looking for is a place where I can wake up around noon and go out and see some things grab some lunch (maybe try some new food. Pountine if you will) and then still be able to go back to the hotel get ready and have a few bars or clubs to go to. I'm not really looking for a Cancun type place. Plus I've been wanting to go to Canada for a while. And I'm looking to just do something different then go to the local bar and sit with the same people all the time.

Montreal is the perfect place to go for a chill urban vacation that's not a plane flight away from the NYC area. I go whenever I can. I'm even taking my dad there this summer, who's never been north of Ft. Erie (a Canadian border town outside Buffalo). Definitely go there. They have great beer, decent clubs, and fun non-partying stuff to do. And contrary to what an above poster said, DON'T brush up on your French (at least, not in hopes of speaking it - reading menus maybe, but not speaking) because everyone there knows English and they'll just inadvertently make you feel dumb when you try to speak broken French and they respond in better English than you can speak.

If you have never been to Canada before, then why not start with the Capital.

All the National Museums are here. There is plenty of "Night life" in The Market and along Elgin street. Across the river (in Quebec) you have the Lac Lemay Casino and the " ballet " bars .

http://www.casino-du-lac-....com/lacleamy/nav/en/home

There are more golf course around the Nation's Capital than you'll find anywhere in Ontario.

Everything is a 20 minute drive away. There is an extensive Bike path system if thats what you are into.

He is quite pushy isn't he!

Doppleganger is right though. Ottawa is an amazing city to visit. It is laid back, not too large, but has a great night life, plenty of tourist attraction etc.

Montreal is awesome too. As an Ottawa resident, I like to make weekend trips up to Montreal. The night life is better, mainly because it is a larger city, but there is still plenty to do. Old Montreal is great, i spend hours there taking pictures.

So it's decided Montreal it is. I wonder how long of a drive it is. My parents bought time share some years back. They actually finished paying for it 2 years ago and now they just pay the maintence fee which rounds out to about $600 a year but they hardly use it and have told me it's up for grabs. Most of the hotels I've look at (Five Stars) are only roughly $300 for a room for a week (4 person rooms) with breakfast and dinner included (your on your own for lunch).

From where you are probably 6-7 hours (don't hold me to that). It depends on how fast you drive. The $300 deal sounds good.

It really isn't a bad deal. I mean if I go I'm more than likely going with 3 of my buddies. So from that we split the $300 for the room and it adds up to only $75 a person for a week in a 5 star resort thing. Then spending money it ends up being really cheap. I'm hyped now and can't wait to go.
