I was doing some research on where to go as I'll be there in the spring, bit of a hike by cab but Barcade in Brooklyn looks awesome.

just take the G or the L subway to the metropolitan/lorimer stop to go to barcade, it's one block from the stop
near that is torst in williamsburg, a fancy beer place by one of the mikkeller brewery brothers

park slope has a nice beer hall and quite a few beer-centric casual pubs

the ginger man in manhattan at 36th and madison is also good, and of course you have to go to mcsorley's on east 7th street

Thanks, Ginger Man looks great.

Know anything about Beer Authority, Pony Bar, New York Beer Company or Valhalla?

honestly i have never heard of any of those places, but that's a part of town i never ever go to...

after googling, the beer authority looks cheesy but that beer list is very impressive

pony bar only serves american beer so it's not a place i would go but would perhaps be interesting to you for that very reason? there's a good bar similar to that in the west village called the blind tiger, one of the first craft/american beer bars in nyc. across the street from the blind tiger is a killer old ny pizza place called john's pizza.

ny beer company looks terrible, i would avoid

valhalla i was wanting it to be awesome because that's a great name... but it looks like a football/sports bar with a pretty average beer menu

when you're in nyc i say go to the special places and avoid the average ones, you can find that poop in cleveland. you should deffies go to mcsorley's, it's a special experience. just go early afternoon to get in before the tourist crush. there are only two beers, light or dark and they're served two mugs at a time. order the cheese and onion plate and try to get one of the window tables!

McSorley's it will be for the 5@7, we'll see afterwards. Took notes of everything. We'll check in at the hotel at about 3PM, and we'll be tailgating at the Metlife Stadium Sunday at around 1PM, so we won't a lot of time to visit and do other things not involving drinking beer.

In the end we went to McSorleys. Did not stay a long time, but it was quite the experience.

Also had the following beers at Ginger Man. Oh man, this was awesome.

- Heavy Seas Bourbon Barrel Aged Below Decks

- Harviestoun Ola Dubh 12

- 1809 Berliner Style Weisse Zymatore (Gin/Pinot Barrels)

- Liefmans Goudenband

Not a big connoisseur of sour beers, as they are pretty rare in Quebec and we seldom get such Belgian beer on tap, but the Goudenband is among the best beers I've had.

The RIS on tap.. whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.

For sure it'll be at Volo, I'm hoping it'll be at the Only too. Either way I'll get a glass or two.

edit: never mind, the list is out and the only cafe is on the list

Having access to all the Quebec bottled beers and large numbers of single batch special beers on tap kind of makes up for missing something like this once in a while I'd say.

It really is. Decided I'd buy 6 bottles every year and keep a couple to do a 3-4 year vertical starting next year.

I'd try that if I knew I could stop myself from drinking it before it's properly aged.

Well, the only way of preventing that is buying lots of other beers to deflect my attention
