Had a couple of these after dinner for dessert. I probably should have only had one but it's too delicious.

Just bought a 5 gallon whiskey barrel to age some porter
- shvingter88

how long are you aging it for?

Thinking about 40 to 50 days. I haven't really decided what I'm doing yet. It was the only 5 gallon oak barrel available in Connecticut, so I had to buy it. These things don't come around often enough.

With a barrel that size I bet you'll get a lot of the flavour from it in that amount of time. Should be good.

Nice.

I've got an I&G clone next up on the homebrew docket, but I'm cheating and just aging it on whiskey soaked oak chips.

A friend brought these back from Quebec for me. Mmm. The Le Castor IPA was exceptional and the Vache Folle RPA was good but not great. Both were really fresh.

Will have the rest another time.

The Yakima is indeed out of this world. Had it on tap this Wednesday, was still not disappointed. It's really hard to find in Quebec these days, huge demand.

Yeah, they arrived on the market "like a ton of bricks" (French expression, don't know if it also applies in English) about a year ago. They're so successful that they just bought newer brewing and bottling installations. Some breweries that have been here for 10 years cannot even dream of that.

Their Pale Ale is also very good. It has the balanced hoppiness of the St-Ambroise Pale Ale, with the fresh grassy flavour from Beau's Lugtread. Pretty much my two favourite thirst beers

And you don't need a dessert with the Wee Heavy Bourbon.

Had some of their Oatmeal Stout tonight and some fresh Green Flash West Coast IPA to compare to the Yakima IPA. I prefer the Yakima IPA I think.

My friend picked up some other beers too that I failed to mention. Some Hopfenstark Boson De Higgs and a few others. The Boson De Higgs sounds really bizarre yet tasty.

Find this year to be a bit lower on the pumpkin quotient, a plus on an already great beer.

Right now, drinking Great Lakes Octoberfest.., excellent Marzen style. Super well balanced.

i feel you. i don't feel all excited to run out and get it this year like i did last year.

but if i have to drink a pumpkin beer that would definitely be my only choice.

it sounds weird but i don't think it's something you drink until it's cold outside anyway. for some reason it's not a warm weather thing to me.

maybe i'll crave it in november.

Only reason I drink different beers during different seasons is because of availability. I'll drink a Christmas ale during the summer or whatever, I don't care lol.

I like heavy Belgian ales in the summer too. good beer is good beer regardless of the season for me.
