before you ask why i would even try drinking this beer in the first place, the only other kinds of beer in the house were a christmas beer that i have already had and didn't like and a pumpkin beer that i have already had and didn't like.

Had some more Matilda. Man I love it. It has that Orval brett yeast funk going on but with some extra sweet fruit too.

I would've went with the pumpkin or christmas beer for sure, as long as it wasn't Brooklyn's pumpkin beer anyway.

Yeah, lots of these Belgian beers get pretty tasty with age. When I like a beer I buy a bunch of them and keep a couple to age now. We'll see how that goes.

I'm going to do a St Ambroise Oatmeal Stout vs Fullers London Porter blind tasting with a friend soon. I've been saying that neither of us will be able to tell which is the stout and which is the porter. I might be full of poop.

Relevant because those are my favourite stouts/porters under 6% ABV.

Top 5 rated stout for what it's worth. I've had the #2 rated stout as well and the St Ambroise one is better I'd say. More sessionable because it's 5% vs 6.5%.

Pours totally yellow. Nice head and lacing.

Nose is all pine and grapefruit.

Taste is all pine and grapefruit.

Slightly "softer" IPA, lacks aggressive carbonation, but still has plenty of hops and seems perfectly fresh to my palate.

Nice IPA, doesn't have the body, resin or carb of many US takes but still perfectly enjoyable. Extremely drinkable.

Evokes a somewhat bigger Stone & Wood Pacific Ale.

Serving type: bottle

I meant the really good ones are all mostly samey. The dominant flavours are usually pretty similar, it's just the balance of everything is different. I've had some vanilla bean stouts, blackberry stouts, etc etc that are imo no longer even stouts that taste different but I kind of exclude things like that.

Holy crap I want it so bad.

The last exceptional baltic porter I had was the Three Musketeers Baltic Porter. Its real name is French but I don't feel like googling its lol. It was so good though. Tasted kind of like Cherry Blossom chocolates.
