I think they were very light on those spices since I haven't seen any reviews mentioning any of those flavours really. At least not the green pepper.

thank god

Even though they're not the same style at all this Schneider Hopfen Weisse is closer to the Great Lakes Devil Made Me Dry Hop It Twice (ugh, such a long name) than it is to Aventinus. The IBUs on this has to be 30 or less compared to the 60+ in the Great Lakes beer otherwise they have the same creamy grapefruit peach thing going on with the banana yeastiness. Just make sure you drink it a tiny bit warm. The flavour explodes as it warms up. Absolutely delicious. I need more of these.

The aroma is great too. On top of the strong citrus you get right away it smells like a field of flowers in the early summer. Sounds stupid but it's true.

One of the few beers where your burps taste amazing too.

edit: correction. it says on the back of the bottle that it's 40 IBUS. It's probably got Aventinus levels of sweetness hiding behind that though so it was hard to tell in my defense.

- Don'tForgetTocchet

it was a great time. everything looked incredible up there and we drank outside from noon until 1 am every day.

i should have taken pictures for other threads, but i found red squirrels and a thousand kinds of birds. never did get to see a bear though.

Sounds pretty awesome. There aren't any mountains around here at all. Lots of hills people like to call mountains though.

*glares at hamilton*

edit: beer related

Two Hopfen Weisse's in and I can confirm it is indeed 8.2% even though it tastes like there's no alcohol in it whatsoever.

That's honestly a tough one. The hops in this beer play a huge role in its flavour. It's not overly bitter by any stretch, it leans far more towards a wheat malty sweetness, but it's a huge citrus bomb at the same time. It's so creamy though so it almost seems to take the edge off of everything which does not happen with standard hoppy IPA's and such.

If you hate hops I guess I'd say don't get it, rather see if you can convince someone else to buy one and have a sip of it after it's warmed a little. If you like it great, if not then you haven't wasted any money.

Anyone else who doesn't hate hops I'd say 100% you have to get this. I am tempted to go back tomorrow and buy a dozen more lol. For me this is one of those "WOW" beers that I'll be talking about for ages once it's sold out and I can't get any more. I am not like this with most hoppy beers. Lupulus is basically the only other hoppy one where I've felt like this.

Sorry for the essay. Guess Hopfen Weisse makes me write too much.

How come my 950 ml can of Steeler falls short of a liter? It's like they tried to make it a 1000 ml but gave up.

A - Pours a clear golden color with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some good lace.

S - Aroma is a mix of chamomile and other floral elements, sesame and other spices, some light fruitiness, wheat, and some yeast.

T - Starts off with a mix of chamomile and other flavor flavors with some wheat and some spices alongside. Through the middle, sesame comes through with some yeast flavors and some fruity flavors. The finish is a mix of fruity flavors and floral flavors with some yeast, wheat, and a bit of spice.

M - Medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry, spicy, and lightly sweet finish.

D - Very drinkable. Lots of different and unique flavors mixed in, but the overall beer is nice and balanced and very sessionable.

T - oregano
M - oregano

here is a picture of the main ingredient, za'atar:

Za'atar is a generic name for a family of related Middle Eastern herbs from the genera Origanum (Oregano), Calamintha (Basil thyme), Thymus (typically Thymus vulgaris, i.e., Thyme), and Satureja (Savory).[1] The name za'atar alone most properly applies to Origanum syriacum.

Yeah it's only in 50 or so LCBOs in all of Ontario. Pretty limited unfortunately. They had tons at the LCBO I went to though.

Except to pick up Unibroue beers I don't go to the beer store ever. What are they like? If they still just have the standard Beer Store selection that'd be lame.

It's like the LCBO, but for beers only... it's got every beer you can find in the LCBO and Beer store, some that are normally harder to find, too.

That's surprising. How'd they manage to get the beers the LCBO has?
