also, nobody else around me sells single beers. how awesome is this?

it was awkward walking around the store with that erection.

okay, so here's what i did.

i got the merry monks, magic hat howl black lager, brooklyn brewing's black chocolate stout, something called winter rental (also a black lager), and the bulleit rye whiskey that was recommended.

i also got three single bottles. dogfish head indian brown ale, and two i never heard of which are new holland - poet oatmeal stout and tommyknocker - maple nut brown.

- kicksave856

Nicely done. Let me know what you think of the rye.

okay, i'll probably get killed for this.

i'm trying the merry monks right now. i can see how people would like this and i'm not saying it isn't a good beer, but it's not really my favorite kind of beer. it's maybe a little too strong? the taste of the alcohol is kind of taking away from the taste of the beer for me.

i had a wine beer (whatever that is) once that this reminds me of. but the reason it reminds me of it is because it was too strong to enjoy.

anyway, it's not like i won't finish them and i am glad i tried it. i just don't think i'd go out of my way to buy it again.

Tripels can be a bit boozy. If it's well done it adds to the flavour for me but I can see how some people might not like it. Not everyone likes every style of beer.

well i'm trying "the poet" by new holland brewery. it's an oatmeal stout, which is something i think i've only ever tried once before.

i wasn't expecting too much because i don't think i've ever heard of them but this is really really good beer. more my style i think, so that helps. but it tastes great and i'd marry it if i could.

also, i happened to look under the cap when i popped it off and it cryptically had the word "belly" written under there.

One of the most consistently amazing beer I get on tap all the time is an oatmeal stout.

I could drink that all day.

Abbey Tripel

Like other abbey ales, Tripels are strong, yeasty-malty beers. But they are also pale, and have a notable hop profile. Hop bitterness may be higher than a typical abbey ale, up to 45IBUs. But the finish is where the hops really shine, as tripels should finish fairly dry. Otherwise, maltiness is still essential to the style, and the assertive yeast note typical of all abbey ales will be more apparent in tripels, since they do not have the rich dark malts to distract the palate. Alcohol flavours feature more prominently in Tripels that in just about any other style.

If I'm having a single drink I prefer quads, then tripels, then everything else. I haven't sessioned those since the one new years several years back where I figured two 6 packs of La Fin Du Monde to start the night would an excellent idea. I haven't been the same since.

I don't know if it's as good bottled as it is on tap (haven't bought a case in a year) but if you ever see it you should try it. St Ambroise Oatmeal Stout is probably my favourite stout on tap.

All decisions should be made while under the influence of alcohol. The more important those decisions the better.
