It was epic. Oak aged Arrogant Bastard was in particular just amazing.

i envy you.

EDIT: if i ever make it to the left coast, i'll have to be forcibly removed from Stone, Sierra Nevada and Anchor's brewing premises.

Interesting. I like the whole concept how beer is food...aka...liquid bread and this is like banana bread. It was! I could taste the English ale maltyness, fresh hops, and of course the banana....it was tasty and could be paired with anything....real good if you were munching on nuts.

Have they figured out how to brew beer without 2kg of hops per bottle on the west coast yet?

Just making fun of the disproportionate amount of hop bombs over there, that's all. I've had a few nice non APA style beers from over there. Ale Smith, Stone, etc make some good brews of other styles.

I love IPAs, but I actually agree that I'm not a fan of the really "big" W coast IPA style. Stone (was just there) is as guilty as any with the big IPAs... but also do some good alternatvies.

Most of my favs out here are actually in the lager family - there are several quality pils in this area for sure.

I like all styles mostly. I'm just getting a little bitter (get it?) because I have to do a bit of digging to find different styles since it seems like 90% of the craft beers now seem to be west coast IPAs or west coast IPA clones. I don't actually mind either way though, I'm just being dumb.

Once summer hits I'll be a hypocrite and nearly exclusively drink that style of beer though lol. Those and hefeweizen's have been my summer beers of late.

Pilsners and Heffes during the summer for me... IPAs are more a meal.

Thing with me, it's not even the hops that offend - it's the overmalt that gets you to 9 and 10%, then gets covered up with beaucoup hops. Lacks subtlety.

I tend to stick to the regular IPAs (~5%) rather than the double IPAs. I like being able to have a few without getting drunk.
