Sampled quite a few of the beers at the Mill Street Brewery in Ottawa a little while back...

Some very interesting ones there. Ended up settling on the Stock Ale... a nice session beer.

Good food too.

I didn't know they opened up a location in Ottawa.

Organic and Tankhouse are my favourites from them. In the summer, the lemon tea beer is good too, but only from the taps. Canned version has no lemony flavour at all.

edit: their pilsner and pale ale is really good too, as is the cobblestone stout. But those are almost never bottled.

I like their Tankhouse ale and their Porter is decent but overrated. I despise their Organic Lager and Stock Ale. I don't think much of the brewery overall to be honest. Too many mediocre beers and only a few really good ones.

There are a couple kinds of microbreweries I tend to be "meh" about even if they have some stuff I like. There are those that refuse to make a beer that isn't a billion IBUs and there ones that basically release the same poop a major brewery would release but with a fancy name and rustic label. Mill Street kind of falls into the latter more often than not.

They are our Sam Adams lol. Some good stuff, bunch of average stuff.

I suggest going to the brewpub and trying some of the beers that aren't bottled, they're pretty good.

I don't know if you'd find a microbrew equivalent to the tankhouse or coffee porter.

I've been to the brewpub a few times. It's a pretty cool place. I'll more than likely go again in the summer. I'm hoping for a hefeweizen.

I had a pint of the Organic. Did not like it one bit. Tasted like wet straw. Was very odd. The Stock Ale makes for a good session beer if you're going to put down 8 pints. They had all their beers on tap there, and three were locally brewed... Ambre de la Chaudiere, Portage Ale and Valley Irish Red. The Portage Ale was real nice. Tankhouse if a fav of mine but I wanted to try some that were not readily available elsewhere. The Cobblestone Stout and Coffee Porter were also very good.

Their stock ale just isn't my style I guess. It's more a pale lager than an ale as far as taste goes. One of those beers where the taste would be described as "clean, crisp, refreshing" ie no flavour lol.

Yeah, that's pretty much a session beer described to a tee.
