yikes it looks horrendous.

i get it if people don't want to drink high % poop all night but my god we north americans have certainly been bamboozled

i am so thankful that i fell ass backwards into trying REAL beer

well Prohibition is to blame for that.

our fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers were subjected to stripped down and cheaply brewed beers after Prohibition was overturned. i wish i could get my father to try some of the stuff i get. he just tells me it's too expensive and not worth the price. he's totally happy with his run of the mill light beers. i do have to say, he enjoys Great Lakes Brewing Company's Edmund Fitzgerald and does like Yuengling's brews - yeah, they aren't really a craft brewery, but the put some love into their beer rather than worrying about super strict quality standards and requirements of making stellar profits.

the Sabres arena at least gets Bass Ale which by comparison to the regular stuff is like drinking Dom Parignon (probably butchered that). there's a craft brewery here called Flying Bison and they make this really good Vienna style lager. they usually have it on tap now and it's my go-to beer when i'm there. we've got season tix for the Bandits - indoor lacrosse.

Glad they have Hertzog's stuff in the arena now. He's really done a lot for Buffalo, set up the Brew Pub, helped set up the Pearl Street, and Flying Bison. Good guy too, great moustache.

vienna style lager?? interesting... i have been to vienna and i don't remember there being anything other than czech crapola or yummy german stuff. i was busy freaking out on art and architecture but i generally also pay attention to the beer... maybe i failed there

yeah, he's put alot of hard work into it and they're finally making some headway.

i just don't know if they're handling the demand all that well though.

i was stocking the cooler at ConBev a few days before Christmas and this well dressed guy comes in and he's telling me about this and that and i'm thinking "what's up with this customer?" and he asks me to check on this and that and i get even more confused. turns out it was Neil Cavanaugh, THE guy. the owner of the company. really nice guy in the end. he shed some light on how he was asking Flying Bison to do whatever they could to send us more stuff.

i may be wrong but i think Sam Adams Boston Lager is modelled after a Vienna lager. that Flying Bison beer, Rusty Chain, seems like a mix of Boston Lager and maybe even regular Yuengling - but strangely, a whole poop-ton better than both.

That was the whole idea behind Utica coming in, help them keep up with production and distribution.

Gotta imagine it'll take a while.

No, by the time I was learning real words the school system got a hold of me. But you start out with basic things like colors... so that damage was done.
