When I have a single malt scotch it's always by itself, or sometimes with a tiny bit of water.

If it's blended whisky I don't mind mixing it with coke or sometimes ice. Ice dilutes the whisky but it also makes it cold which makes it harder to pick up a lot of the flavour and smell so I don't do that if it's high quality whisky. It's the same thing with beer really. As a beer warms the flavours start to come out. Have it ice cold and it tastes like nothing.

I drink it neat, or with a bit of soda. I agree on no ice.

Hanson to release MMMHop beer

Who says there’s no place for Hanson at the bar?

The '90s pop trio, famous for their long locks and the hit tune MMMBop, is in the process of expanding their brand (yes, they have a brand) with their own beer: MMMHop.

hey, you're holding down everything from the West Coast. i'd love to be in your shoes to be able to take a road trip to go to Stone, Anchor and Sierra Nevada's breweries.

This is available at a few liquor stores in Toronto (and across Ontario I am sure) right now. Grab it while you can. At $2.95 a bottle it's insanely cheap. Goes for ~$6 a bottle in the states and £50+ per 24 in the UK. One of the few decent deals to be had in Ontario.

The head doesn't last long but it's pretty nice when you pour it. Higher ABV beers do that a lot I find. That could be a coincidence but that's what I've noticed.

good bit of lacing once it dies down?

i've noticed beers above 7.5% usually produce a decent head which quickly goes away and leave nice lacing on the glass.

EDIT: like that Dogfish Head Punkin Ale. 7% and it didn't really produce much head for me out of the growler.

Very thin lacing I'd say. Tastes amazing though.

If you can find it for a decent price I'd try it for sure.

I've had four styles from them and all of them were amazing. I'm waiting on the gift pack release here actually. I'm hoping it includes the abt 12, prior 8, pater 6, and the tripel.

I really love abbey ales and they more or less make the definitive versions for each style imo. They are probably my favourite beers although that changes depending on my mood lol.

I wish they had them here all the time. We tend to only get them around Christmas and I never buy enough to last me the year. Apt 12 is my favourite from them. Their tripel and prior 8 which is also a tripel are almost as good.

Have you ever had any other beers of that style? I don't know if you'd want to session them (you'd get tanked fast) but I'd definitely recommend them.

edit: my mistake, just checked and prior 8 is a dubbel.

If the St Bernardus beers are expensive see if you can find something from Unibroue. Trois Pistoles, La Fin Du Monde, Maudite, La Terrible, etc. They are similar beers to what you'd find from St Bernardus. That's how I got into that style. They are relatively cheap and they're also great examples of their styles.

I pulled the trigger on a case of this stuff. I think I might hold on to a few bottles and let them rest in the cellar to see how the flavor mellows.
