They have not played well. Teams have taken away the quick strike. They need to adjust. Good thing is they are 2-0.

Personally, the fact they committed to the run last night is a positive.
Shows they are willing to take what the d is willing to give. Just need to be patient and wait for the quick strike opportunities. Hurts needs to adjust and take the short plays. Mahomes did it all year last year and won the SB.

Defense was good. Need to get healthy though. I feel like they will trade for a safety at the deadline. Covey needs to go.

Correct. More generally, they have taken away the first read. They are changing pre-snap coverage quite a bit post snap. Essentially, they are daring Hurts to adjust in the pocket. And he is in deep trouble at this stage. There should have been an INT in the NE game when he threw into double coverage. There was one yesterday. He is taking sacks he did not take last year. When he takes off running, he does so from deep in the pocket (unlike last year), after a checkdown, and he is being easily brought down.

Yup they did power running yesterday. But that was often with a 12 personnel set with both TE's blocking, and you are not going to go deep in the playoffs in today's NFL with that scheme. Not with our D, which will give up a lot of yards in the middle of the field in the air.

The good news is, they are 2-0, and they have time and the optimistic version is this was our pre-season. And Hurts' biggest strength is his temperament and ability to adjust. The bad news is, issues like this are almost never adjusted in the NFL during the regular season.

The next game, with the extra days of prep, will be key to seeing how far they can go. Right now, I am seeing a paper tiger, ripe for the killing.

Honest question. Why do you dislike Recchi? For the reasons already stated pertaining to Barber?
- MBFlyerfan

For the most part. Ive spoken extensively about this over the years and dont care to rehash. The majority of the original members of this thread like Bodiva and Jsaq had similar feelings and would have very cogent discussions. Recchi is a rat regardless of the numbers he put up and he came up very small in the Toronto series they lost to Cujo. To me, one of the most arrogant most dismissive things to can say to somebody is get over it

For us recent posters on this board, please explain why he is a rat. I am very curious. Not trying to be an ass, but this is the first time I have heard rex described that way.

If I had more time, i would get into it. I realize youre genuine in your interest and a didnt want to come across like it was a bother. But to really get into it, i would have to sit around and think about the details because its been 20+ years hahaha

I didn't see the play. I assumed he fumbled after breaking the plane.

No I get it. I figured it was about the Barber controversy. I remember all that happening.

But he didnt break the plane, he fumbled it maybe a half yard before the goal line.

- MBFlyerfan

If he breaks the plane, it’s a TD, naturally. If he doesn’t break the plane, it’s a fumble out of bounds, possession goes to the offensive team. If you are correct in saying he fumbled a half yard short, then it was a bad call. I guess they thought he did break the plane and then fumbled.

But he fumbled before he reached the goal line and the ball went out of the end zone. Eagles ball.

My memory sucks, but as I recall Barber was neither a good Xs and Os coach nor was he good with players. I have vague memories of him refusing to practice power plays while the team was in a pp slump. I feel like the veteran leaders on the team did what they thought they had to do. The more recent rumors of Barber being the voice in the ear of Dave Scott doesn’t look real good either.

I think that, plus Barbers family issues with his wife's health contributed to the bad optics. It was said that Barbers answer to the players when they werent scoring was to "just play harder".

It seems like the vets thought they needed some direction and Barber wasnt providing any. So yes, they took it upon themselves and staged a revolt. The timing was bad and I think all involved did what they thought they had to do. It sucked all around.

Wasn't just Rex though. I remember the season ending interview Primeau gave, right after the last game of that horrific series. ("Some guys often have bad years. Explain to me why every one of us had a bad year" or words to that effect)

I recall Primeau as part of it as well. I don't recall Rex being the major contributor. But since we will not get further explanation on why Rex is rat I will pass the remark off as someone having a grudge.

I don't care if you're a good person or not, if you play for my sports teams, just be a great player so we can win a championship. Most humans, male and female, who make it to the highest levels of pro sports have a sense of arrogance about them, it actually contributes to their personal success as they are highly driven individuals.

To a certain extent, yes. A player may be a jerk but as long as he is a good player, I don't care. There are limits though. I'm not going to not care about a blatant criminal as a member of the team. Who has hurt people or something else illegal.

None of what you are alleging is disqualifying of the recognition he deserves for his playing career here. Hurt feelings aside, he’s still a team all-timer. I’ll also decline your invitation to Frank-off.
