But that's the problem, he isnt going to sink or swim, he's a below average QB whose potential at best is a Derek Carr type career.
And it wont result in the Steelers getting a top 5 pick to draft a real #1 QB. We last drafted in the top 5 in 1970 when we got Bradshaw. This organization has enough talent outside of Pickett to consistently finish with 6-10 wins.
If the plan was to give Pickett a chance and worst case we suck this year and get a top 5 pick, I'd be on board. But that isnt how Steelers management/ownership sees it. - SuperHenderson13
If Pickett is a bottom 5 QB, they have a really good chance of getting a top five pick. This division is stacked. They've lost Johnson for multiple weeks. Lost Hayward for at least 2 months. Things could really go south. Not to mention, they'll keep running Najee Harris out there when Warren is better. |

Carr is a top 15 QB overall and can be a top 10 QB when healthy and when playing a system that fits his abilities.
Pickett is a bottom 5 QB in the league now, and I really dont rate his potential beyond 12-15 QB in the league at best.
So I wouldve happily taken Carr and kept that 1st round pick for something more useful. - SuperHenderson13
I was never really sold on Pickett either, and I think having Matt Canada as an OC makes it even worse.

I'd rather use a guy that's either going to sink or swim as opposed to a middle of the road QB. If Pickett sucks, then you get a higher pick. If he figure it out, you have a young QB to grow with. Signing a guy like Carr is just going to keep you in mediocrity. - jmatchett383
This only makes sense if you feel you need a top 5 qb to be a contender. |

As someone who really tried to be into football to fit in with my Dad uncles and brother I just don’t get the appeal. Then it just has such a poopty culture surrounding it. Maybe if it’s a close game and they are taking chances at the end it’s watchable. Rarely happens though. |

I like football, just nowhere close to how much I love hockey. I always watch NFL playoffs, love the single game elimination setup. Hell, even the only 17 game regular season makes each game so important. I like that. |

But the only really bad player left is Carter. I doubt Nylander is enough to get Carter. |

That's my fear. Pickett is ok enough that it's not a hole, but he isn't good enough to contend with. Probably going to be an era of mediocrity if he doesn't bust, but I never liked the pick. |
