Selection bias? - coffee junkie
I don't think it's anything about that. Simply about leverage.

I think being very knowledgeable with stats is beneficial. I think they are merely guidelines for decisions and don’t tell the whole picture but they serve a purpose. There’s too many factors in a fast moving game with a lot of moving parts for certain stats to be the “end all be all”.
Where I’m coming from there are a lot of things statisticians will never see or understand. The microseconds you have to make decisions with the puck, the human (albeit dramatic) element of all pro sports. The personalities… the chemistry… things you can’t plan for… while these all sound wonderous and non-existent on paper they are very real. The drama of human nature makes pro sports interesting.
Someone who only looks at stats sees this and says none of this is real. As someone who has played I say these things are very real.
Have you ever had a guy on your team that performs well but is such a poopty dude in person he drags the entire team down? Or have you been apart of a team where you can’t trust the other players? Those facets appear on the ice in one way or another. I’ve had teams with peak camaraderie that play as if each person was just an extension of each other and we played like a singular unit. There have been teams where you can’t trust guys with the puck for one reason or another and it plays out on the ice in horrible fashion. Yeah Hayes didn’t have a terrible year but sometimes the other things he brings to the table are not worth the trade off. But if you only see a guy as what his stat sheet says you are not getting the full picture.
Whether some like it or not these are people and not robots with Overall #’s attached to them. Having one rotten apple in the bunch, no matter how many points they had, can be detrimental to a team trying to find an identity and grow.
When Hayes got moved I didn’t think “oh god why are they dumping this player with this many points for nothing” … I’m thinking “who is this guy really behind the scenes and what did he do or not do to get moved”
I don’t care if Charles Manson had a 100 point season if he’s gonna convince the rest of the team to murder Sharon Tate
What I would love is if we all pulled our various experiences and knowledge together and talked about the same team we all claim to love with some civility. |

imo this is simply a case of the coach not liking him as soon as he was hired. had his mind made up.
Gonna take a chance on her

I stated it. my PM to you said, "what is your Franking problem?" I only remember it was because you were attacking me and I had no idea why.
It was sent back in Feb. Unfortunately I have no PM in my sent folder before 2022 so I have no idea what I sent you - MBFlyerfan
No that is not what I was referring too. “Attacking”. Jesus. |

You're having reading comprehension issues and trouble following the context of the conversation again. The context of the conversation is the decision needing to be made on re-signing Frost in 2 years. Try and follow along Mr. Exec! - MJL Dude, why don't you go get checked for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)? Now we're going to beat the exec thing to death. You really tend to obsess over things to a serious fault. I should have known better to say that to you. The first dumb thing that I have done on here cause now I'm gonna have to hear about this all the time. At least I don't work at Bed, Bath and Beyond like you do. Clown!

If Frost steps up and is a point producing first line center. Couturier comes back and plays well, Cates continues his strong play and Gauthier plays center and meets his top 5 potential, what would you do? - MJL That ain't gonna happen dumbass!

Do most think around 20 goals and 30+ assists for 50+ points would be a very successful year for Frost?

The scary part is that you and your big brother are going to beat this thing to death and actually think it's humorous. I'd never fire you, so you have no worries. Of course, I'd never hire you either. I tend to stay away from drama queens in both my professional and personal life. Thanks! |
