How likely is that he REALLY wanted to go back to the very people (at least suspected to be) responsible for having him arrested, hospitalized for a convenient bout of gastritis. taken to a miitary base in northern Russia and missing a full year of hockey in the prime of his career? It seems more logical that he basically had to agree to return to CSKA before his life was TRULY made miserable. The Flyers being a 75-point team last year (a better club, actually, than they were when he signed his NHL deal) likely had zero to do with it.

All Fedotov himself said was that he just wants to play hockey again ,wherever it may be. All the words being put in his mouth came from others. He didn't even deny that the powers that be at CSKA higher-ups (still officially affiliated with the Russian dept of defense and also with the oligarchs who run the KHL) were the ones who had him arrested and conscripted last summer. He said "It doesn't really matter at this point who was behind it."

None of this has EVER been about Fedotov's choosing. He was a pawn last summer. He's a pawn now.

Just my take on it.

Thank you for writing this out as it is the most likely reason but uncomfortable to say.

Happy to hear the guy is playing hockey again and wish nothing but the best for HIM.

On a historical note, how ironic is it that Sergei Federov is now the GM of CSKA and once defected from his home country under similar circumstances?! I mean, you can’t make that up. It is a movie in the making.

Wasn’t before. Still isn’t. That’s what’s troubling. Nothing is clear about Fedotov or Michkov.

Fedotov is the outlier. I think a lot is being made of it and really I don't think it has anything to do with Michkov.

Was the healthy scratch a shot at the Flyers for the Fedotov situation? I watched a couple pre season games, he was arguably their best player

Agree completely. The scratch is puzzling though. I wonder how vocal he about wanting to come over. I remember writers questioning whether Kaprizov wants to come over for years. Play hockey and don’t feed the press may be a strategy.

Concerned?? About what?? Bigger things to be concerned about than a couple of Russians telling the flyers to screw off. Lol

My concern is Couturier & Atkinson getting back on LTIR. Untradeable, no value.

Another twist in the Fedotov saga. Head of the KHL Morozov said the following:"The CSKA team applied for the game (vs. AK Bars) and included Fedotov in the list of players participating in this game. KHL accepted, CIB (Central Informative Buro of KHL) let this paperwork through, which is why Fedotov will be playing in this game.KHL and CSKA disagree with the decision made by IIHF, which discriminates against the constitutional rights of the citizens of the RF to work. Also, in Fedotov’s defense, the Russian Federation equivalent of the Office of Attorney General sent a warning to FHR (Russian Hockey Federation), the club (CSKA), and KHL, about the inadmissibility of violation of the rights of a citizen of the Russian Federation to work, and also obliged to allow Fedotov to play."

Thanks Bill! And on top of this, Michkov is a healthy scratch in the season opener. Things not looking good right now for the Flyers and their Russian prospects.

That's right, they hold the cards and there is nothing the NHL or the IIHF can do about it. And yet we are not concerned?? What they did to Fedotov they can do to *any* Russian player that wants to come to the NHL, and the player or the league has no recourse. Like I said, this should be very alarming to any Flyers fan.

LMAO

Michkov is three years away from playing for the Flyers.
