I dont hate him, I have no reason to hate him.

This is just one of those times you wont convince me to put on the homer goggles.

it's not homer goggles to say that he is a young talented center who doubled his production YOY and by the metrics is no worse than Trocheck, the former 2C, on the defensive end, and therefore should receive more time in the top6. You have Trocheck Goggles (trademark pending)

I'll never understand how certain sects of this fanbase clamors for the likes of Sammy Blais and Barclay Goodrow but dislike a guy like Chytil.

Wasn't directed at you. Just in general. You don't think much of Chytil. That's fine. But it's gonna be tough to find a 24 year old 3rd line center capable of putting up 45 points.

Like with Buhcnevich. People (not you) justified the move because the Rangers needed to get tougher and save money. Chris Drury then went out and signed/trade for Goodrow, Reaves, and Nemeth. all while spending more money then they needed to.

Like can we not run Chytil out of town just yet. He might one of the few first round picks that doesn't bust here.

Agree. Though, the 1st round pick / Kid line needs to also get a fair shake of PP time. Each put up 40ish points with virtually zero PP time all season.

I mean if the board wants to have the discussion of moving Laf/Kakko I'm actually more on board with that. Both look slower than they should be. Less explosives' then anticipated and both play don't play a premium position compared to Chytil. gutting center depth is never the answer. Unless you have 4 skilled centers.

Jake Guentzel out for 12 weeks at least with ankle surgery, so looks like Pittsburgh found their way to get Karlsson

I don't know, they still have to be cap compliant when Guentzel comes back. Now if he were to miss the entire season...then yeah the LTIR space might get it done.

They're already $3.2M over the cap.

Maybe SJ eats a good portion of the deal and they send back Granlund

I just don't know what the hell they have to trade. I have to assume a 1st and Brayden Yager would be going to SJ.

the more Pittsburgh sends to San Jose the better

Pickering, Yager, 2024 1st and 2nd rounders all sounds good to me

I guess it matters how much of that deal SJ eats. If they ate 25% and took Granlund back as part of the deal then PIT gets Karlsson at a net of just over $3.6M for the next two seasons. At that point they'll have Smith/Eller/Petry/Pettersson/Rutta coming off the books (which is over $20M) and should more than cover Karlsson at $8.625M for the last two years of his deal. And that doesn't even account for the cap jumping up significantly.

Im not running Chytil out of town, if the right offer presented itself I obviously wouldnt be opposed to trading him.

45 points for a 3rd line C is wonderful, however its not for a 2C. You will argue hes gonna play more minutes and play with better players, in turn score more points. Ok but, if hes not doing so well as it is defending against against weak matchups, hows he gonna do going against opposing teams best offensive/defensive lines because hes probably got Panarin on his wing.

Opposing teams could afford to put their worst lines against the kid line because theyre not particularly threatened by them. However now, you want to play Chytil with Panarin and lets say Wheeler or LAF or Kakko... Chytil now goes from playing against other teams worst players to now having to deal more often with lines that have the likes of Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson/McKinnon and Rantanen/Barkov and Tkachuk/Marchand and Pastrnak/etc... lets say thats not the case and the other team puts a defensive line out there. They swarm/double team Panarin, keeping him on the boards because again, theyre not threatened by Chytil. Hes not a playmaker, hes not a grinder... he alone will not intimidate anyone enough to draw defenders away from Panarin, nor is LAF or Kakko. They havent earned that respect.

However on another level, if Trocheck isnt cutting it defensively and Chytil isnt cutting it defensively and the 4th line isnt doing particularly well either. Then we have a serious problem. Moving Chytil up and Trocheck down isnt going to fix that.

So just to close the loop on this. You’re 100% opposed to chytil being given a larger role? What’s even the point of him in your eyes?

Its not like Im wishing that he doesnt succeed. Its just a matter of knowing what we have in him, which in my opinion is he need players to elevate him rather than vise versa. Im not sure we have the right combination of guys to put on a line with him. Because if Trocheck isnt on that line, then theyre not winning faceoffs. If its Panarin/Wheeler, its a total defensive liability. Its more so about what we have to surround him with.

Personally, Id be curious to see how a Kreider, Chytil, Trocheck line would work. Its got a good amount of physicality, shouldnt be an overt defensive liability, good board play, excellent speed, theyre all shooters and will crash the net. That leaves Panarin, Zib and Kakko/Wheeler to be the top unit. I think thats a pretty solid top line. But then you look at the bottom 6 and think, well crap, who centers the 3rd line? Goodrow? Between LAF and Wheeler or Kakko? Thats a very weird line.
