you really think Im gonna look at that thing, HA! thats such a waste of time - jimbro83
You asked how was/is Wheeler bad. I gave you the charts. Also he's 37, slow, and 5 years removed from his prime. So I'd say I did a pretty good explaining it. If you chose to ignore logic, ok. |

5 posts is not 8 pages. The extremes just do not match the facts. |

The Signings:
Wheeler, Quick, Nash: Bad.
Bonino, Belzile, Pitlick, Hollowell, Brouillard, Mackey: indifferent.
Gustafsson: Best signing they made on the day. But probably blocks Jones. So who really knows. - tomburton99
Wheeler at 800k is a great signing even if he sucks. He’s gonna score at least 50 points. Rangers need secondary scoring with Kane and Tarensenko gone |

he's just being a total ass hole on purpose
even if he sucks and the Rangers have a crap year they'll be able to pawn him off for a pick if it came down to it

Tpc, respectuflly I disagree. I don't care that it's 800k. He's no longer a viable top 6 option. 5 years ago, he was an elite player maker. Now, not so much. |

Yea we all know Wheeler is regressing. But it’s 800k haha. He is going to put up some points. Even if I hate the player still love the deal |

Rangers need some secondary scoring. There was no better way to find it for less than a million in my opinion |

Maybe he slides in on the 3rd line at some point. Problem is the rangers didn’t have many other options bc of the cap. His metrics aren’t good but he still did produce 50 points last year. That’s the silver lining in it for me |

Pitlick for that price and given what he brings is a heck of a lot better than indifferent. Same with Bonino. The downside of each is their age, which I and others already pointed out. But for the price point, pretty solid.
Wheeler - I agree with the charts. But for the cost to acquire and how he likely will be deployed, sorry, hard for me to criticize the move. If he takes time from Kakko or one of the kids, then I will be annoyed. But as a second or third line RW who gets PP TOI at 800K, fine by me.
Quick - I gave my view on Friday before the official signing. My preference was others. But if Allaire can work with him and help be a fraction of what he was, I have some hopes of a turnaround. |

That is absolutely true. I agree with you. How you would create room is doing something with Goodrow or Trouba, be as we saw that was never going to happen. |

I guarantee you if Pittsburgh had signed Wheeler for 800k, we found out the Rangers had an opporunity to sign him for 800k and passed on it, Tom would be laughing saying 'Drury gonna Drury" some crap like that

No. I didn't want Wheeler, he's a defensive black hole and slow. How does that help to the Rangers lack of speed outside of Kreider and their 5 on 5 issues? |

This is the whole FA in a nutshell for rangers. This is all they could afford. Got the best players for what they could bring in. I hate paying big money in FA. Never works aside from gaborik and panarin |

I agree with this but who else are they signing for $800k to fill that hole? |

When expanded to the last 4 seasons according to evolving hockey.
22-23: -15.45 GSAx (97 of 101)
21-22: 12.01 GSAx (11 of 111)
20-21: -3.05 GSAx (44 of 89)
19-20: -6.42 GSAx (56 of 83)
Goaltending has high variance and one good season can be an outlier for a 37 year old.

yeah the problem is the salary cap should have been higher than it is
you change on the fly with this, because last week you were targeting this topic
you know a few of these Ranger signings were with the belief that the cap would be a lot higher by now
so they need a few 800k signings to get them through this season until hopefully they finally do the right (frank)ing thing with the cap next summer |

If it was a multi year deal I would get it. But on one year even if he sucks they can cut bait easily |

Talbot at 1mil. I don't think Halak will get more than 1mil. Granted, he has higher aspirations. But don't think he will get what he wants. |
