You answered your own question there. IMO he isn't worth 2.5 Million either. We are molding our team as a young fast team, Okie does not fit the mold.

I am very sure we can sign a player in FA to get me 11 goals, 17 helpers and a -7 for less then 2.5 Million, And don't give me the old leadership quality BS. There are plenty of good leaders on this team, Tuch, Dahlin, Cozens.....

For me it just does not make a lot of sense resigning Okie to any deal in Buffalo. I would of rather they signed Tyson Jost to a 3 year x 2.5. he is younger and can get you the same production from the 4th line.

- hehateme

I see the 2.5 as a thank you form the organization. Guys been everything you want in player off the ice and around the rink. Even if he wasn't the most productive guy while here. He's been a major part of the turn around we are witnessing. + the money means very little when you have the cap space we have.

Those top guys wanted him back apparently, if you listen to his presser.

Tyson Jost isn't providing the defensive acumen and ability Okposo has.

I'm fairly certain he's not here for his pure production.

Lol, just imagine a pregame presentation of stripping the C from Kyle at Center ice.
That would be just wonderful. They wont take the C from him, no friggin way.

What do you consider the $42 million already paid to him?

After a glance at just FA:

Goodrow
Foligno
J Staal
Compher

- washedup20

2 of those guys are centers. Foligno is under contract and Compher is going to command some good $$$ and wont want to play where Okposo is.

It would've been exciting to see Adams go after a vet Dman who can help with leadership and moved on from Okposo, there are too many prospects knocking on the door and those prospects are winning.

Adams has been consistent from the beginning, this is the summer I was hoping for change, maybe Gerbe was right and they won't even try until next season.

I disagree with your stance on him, and that's ok. What player(s) can you assure me will come in here and perform his specific role, on and off the ice, better than him? Genuine curiosity.
- TheSabresTaco

Thanks for asking.
We want two different things to occur next season.

Where we differ is that I don't consider his defensive game to be that good, nor his service on the PK to make a difference. They absolutely sucked at defensive hockey last year until the last 3 weeks of the season...where was his so called leadership?
The PK was horrible, where was his leadership effective?
Sure, the Corsi Stats are good...waste of 14 minutes a night. (I guess there is "value" there to some).

So those who support Okposo believe he is a difference maker defensively, yet the stats that count don't show it resulted in anything.
(Yes, it is a team game, but he and Girgs were big parts of the defensive acumen, and the team sucked at it).

I would rather have a different 4th line than a traditional 4th line...
I want to roll 4 lines...and develop that style and those young players now, not when they really should be competing for playoff season success.

So, I would rather play Rousek, Kulich and Savoie (because he should be here next season) rather than bring Kyle back to deliver another crappy defensive production.

I like the person in Kyle, but do not value at all what he brings, especially this year when they should be going for it with young guys to get the learnings largely dealt with for those three so they can begin to contribute more significantly.

This plan does in fact take a position away, like it or not, it does.

We see it differently, like you said it's fine.

You want to make a difference on the D side for the 4th line, go sign David Campf...solid defensively and very good at FO on the PK. Let Rousek learn from him. Not some washed up nice Dad.

Top prospects beating AHL filled rosters. Its great but it isn't the NHL.

Those guys could takeover Okposo's role but wouldn't be as effective.

There really is no problem with this signing.
1 more year at his role isn't blocking these prospects if they're good enough.
The pay is irrelevant.
The "vibes" continue.

Not only does this signing not plug up the lineup for the long term. It adds depth. PlayerX gets hurt you can plug one of these young kids in.

injuries are inevitable
