Why would he play 2nd line wing, and why didn't he get more offensive opportunity like pp time?
- sbroads24

Because the coach put him at 4C? He had mildly less productive stats then a guy we all have throbbing erections for in Peterka while playing with KO and Girgs getting around 10% more deployment in the defensive zone than Peterka (52.7 v 42.5).

If it takes until 22 to hit the NHL, he likely isn't a good player.
- Lunaion

well that's kinda nonsense, but don't worry, he'll be 20 when he joins the Amerks for their playoff run and he'll be 20 when he gets called up to play some games in Buffalo and 21 when he's battling for spot in camp.

For those curious, the Sabres are 16th in height and 22nd in weight. Also keep in mind the margins here are extremely small. We're talking like 2" and 10 pounds from smallest and lightest team to biggest and heaviest

https://www.eliteprospect...-physical-stats/2022-2023

Florida is near the bottom in both and Vegas is near the top in both.

- Hank Balling

Vegas' defenseman are all monsters, Martinez at 6'1 210 is the smallest. That seems to be common amongst the best...not a lot of Ekholms or Brysons around those teams. I believe after claiming him, Florida's one defender under 6 feet was Fitz.

I like the fact we have our big three already and they're all biggins.

Confused as to what you take issue with? The throbbing election part? Fine a guy we all have huge hopes for. Myself included. He’s one year younger than Krebs and yea mildly outperformed him. You gonna argue that Peterka didn’t get much more favorable deployment and linemates then Krebs? That’s the point

What did we think Mittelstadt was collectively before last season ended?

Agree on the long term valuation perspective.

If you think he tops out at 4C or a 3rd line supporting wing position, makes to trade before the rest of the league also believes that.

- kingcong39

The 22 year old version of Mitts would get lost in this logjam as well.

I'm not worried. Two years from now, if he's looking at another full year of Roch, I will be.

I think he should be battling for a spot in camp next year.

All of this just shows that management has an unbalanced roster.
- washedup20

This year was about playing the kids and have them develop and grow at the nhl level

Krebs on the 4th line was getting him nhl ice time.

This year …. Playing NHL games for Krebs, Quinn, and Peterka is more meaningful at this point in their careers than play in Roch.

Peterka is like a poor mans year one Josh Allen. Raw, but showed flashes of true talent. Krebs... has not.

You just weren't paying attention then, the kid has great vision and playmaking skills, showed he can be a true 2 way player this year. Im not worried the slightest for him.

Show me another player at 22 with the defensive acumen that kid had this year.

Give him some scorers and he'd blossom

I saw talent from Krebs, also saw his wingers miss opportunities he created.

I’m just as high on JJ as everyone is. Talented for sure. As far as Krebs, think you need to watch some of his passes. His vision is great. And I think some of you should look his common linemate usage on Dobber and the Corsi numbers when not with KO and Girgs (and VO as we all know he’s an insane black hole for everyone he plays with). They’re generally pretty good.

How do you expect improvement while putting the blame on Girgs and Okposo yet, Okposo is going to be his line mate next season?

I like Krebs tenacity, that trait sticks out on a soft team.

Never said I would expect improvement if he was playing under the same circumstances. I would expect improvement (stats wise) if he got the same deployment/linemates as other youngsters on the Sabres today. Meaning I think he’s skilled enough to keep up with your top 6 and is well rounded now after playing a defensive game the past two seasons. Issue is the top 3 are set, and if the kid line keeps going, a middle line is set.

If the argument is he is the odd man out, I understand this. I don’t think it’s because he isn’t talented enough though.

I'd like to see an advanced stat comparison between Krebs and Mitts age 22 year
