When it's this poor, it's usually both. Schneider shouldn't have gone in the first round. Probably wouldn't have if his name weren't Braden Schneider.
- Michael Ghofrani

They then traded away a legitimate top 6 forward in Buchnevich for nothing.

Then compensated by trading a gazillion picks for Kane, Tarasenko, while handing Trochek a brutal contract.

Big time yikes, but can’t complain about inactivity.

Drury should probably direct 90% of his paycheck to Shesterkin though

Well you cited his age, but, this isn't some 6th round unrefined project from avangard omsk who still needs to fill out his frame.

The peak age for first rounders, even d-men, is usually anywhere between 21-25. He's well over 100 games in the NHL, and it's not a case like say Drysdale where the team around him is crushing his numbers.

He shouldn't have gone in the first round to begin with, and he hasn't really displayed any top 4 upside in the time that he's played in the AHL or NHL.

Could it still work out? Sure. Should they be worried? Absolutely. I would be, especially if the Sabres gave up Rosen for him.

- Michael Ghofrani

You're the expert. I am not.

I don't have the time to be doing a ton of player evaluations, or looking the details up where they are available.

I respect and enjoy hearing your opinion.

I was just hoping for more than they should be worried.

You are high on Rosen?

Oh I am no expert. I am very dumb lol. Sometimes i type on my phone and cant do the full explanation. Not my intention to be crass.

Im intrigued by Rosen. His off puck/defensive numbers are pretty strong. This is ordinarily what holds young forwards back with most coaches.

Rosen seemed to really come on strong the 2nd half of the season.

I am struggling to see where all the seemingly unending array of forwards all fit both short and long term with the Sabres.

Especially when it comes to what looks like an impending Gladiator, survival of the fittest situation with the Sabres.

Kinda hard to showcase top 4 when you have Fox and Trouba ahead of you. And he only played like 24 games in the AHL.

He's as common as Olofsson in trade props. Think that tells you all you need to know.

Vanek suggested the Sabres go after Parayko to be long term pairing with Power, cited “right handed and a wiener to play against”

Also said Johnson is a quiet, good 5/6.

I personally like Pierre Engvall.

Could run Engvall-Krebs-Okposo as your fourth line but Engvall has the utility to play on lines 2 through 4 in case of injury or potential sophomore slumps.

He’d be my depth add if they even make an addition to the forward ranks.

>>> You may have also noticed that Victor Olofsson is still on the roster. It may be time to warm up to that possibility because as I’ve mentioned a few times recently, there still isn’t a lot of interest in the market. Things can still change if a team misses out elsewhere and circle back to the Sabres.

The lack of interest in Olofsson league wide is not a last 2 weeks or recent trend.

If they stay at 13, Oliver Moore and Dmitri Simashev are a few names I’ve heard about.

Again the off-season hasn’t started yet.

Let’s all breathe.

Olo for my dislike for him scored near 30 goals and has one year left.

I’d be willing teams may be willing to take a flyer on That.

Now it comes down to are the offers the Sabres have gotten/will get considered fair value to them.

He is a one trick pony, what teams are looking for his role?

IMO it's the Hurricanes, Oilers or Islanders. Those teams play strong enough systematically to hide his flaws. What are they willing to pay for assume 25+ goals?

Are my eyes deceiving me or does it look like Okposo is blocking Rousek?

Also why is a 5' 9" 170lb AHL prospect positioned at 4lw?

>>> Sabres sign Michael Carcone to a one-year, $950k contract
I only made one free agent signing and it was a depth move. Carcone has bounced around the league but spent the last two years in the Arizona Coyotes organization. He led the AHL in scoring this season with 31 goals and 85 points in 65 games for the Tucson Roadrunners.

The 27-year-old just won a Gold Medal with Canada as part of the Men’s World Championship team. He registered three goals and six points in 10 games.

>>> Elliotte Friedman mentioned on the 32 Thoughts podcast that he’ll be looking for an opportunity for NHL ice time next season. I feel the Sabres can offer him that and afford to pay a little over-market value to make sure they get him. If he doesn’t work out at the NHL level, he can be an offensive weapon for the AHL.

I’m going to save an in-depth look at Carcone for an upcoming free-agent profile.

Based on conversations I’ve had, this is the type of player the Sabres will be targeting at forward. A low-key depth addition. If they can’t secure that, they’ll likely just promote players such as Rousek and Kulich.

Interesting, late bloomer. Just surprised that he's only played 30 NHL games on that team.

I was really kidding, maybe it's because it's Arizona. Just surprised he has only played 30gms on that team.
