Over his illustrious carrier with the Sabres, Okposo got paid 189 Thousand Dollars for every point. That's a Nice gig!!

It isn't his fault that they paid him too much for too long. And considering everything that has happened over the last 4 years, I dare say that he has been worth the money if for no other reason than he has helped to right the ship and get our lockerroom stabilized. It isn't like we missed the cap space.

If there's better veteran leadership around, maybe Jack + Sam work out here.

I've been away since the trade deadline. Has there been any word from 89, Gerbe, etc on the following?

1. Girgs status. I am assuming that they will let him walk and promote Rousek
2. Acquiring a top 4 D
3. Anything else

They had some reputable vets in the room at the time (Gio, Okposo, O'Reilly, etc). I've got to think that they tried hard to get the room in order. The whispers started not long after Jack got here.

Pretty good question. No, I wouldn't, for a few reasons.

However I believe the play that Ryan Suter offers is more valuable than Okposo's.

Been a lot of people hearing things, don't remember who said what.

Someone said Girgs is after a multi-year and Sabres aren't willing, so looks like UFA.

Everyone says they are after a top 4 D.

Several say they are looking for a G.

So a guy brought in to score goals and add Offense who ended up being non of that was worth 42 million.

I am sure he didn't end up being what TMGM thought he would be. After all, it is always foolish to throw big money at a guy in his late 20s that already didn't skate well.

All I was saying was that while he obviously didn't put up the points that we hoped he would, he did play a part in the re-emergence of this team after the worst period in our history. In that sense it wasn't a disastrous signing.

One theme is those guys are quiet, lead by example guy. Think it's clear now that it wasn't what they needed at the time.

He still has zero cups :-). But I still think that his contract proves the point - they'd get rid of him after the season if they could.

I don't know if having someone in jack's face 24x7 was going to install maturity into him. Gio always picks his words very carefully when talking about that time - I am sure there is a reason for it.

This is why you don't sign free agents to long term contracts(Orlov). More often than not they regress significantly.

I generally agree with this, but I think there are nuances that can be considered. His age and skating should have been the two flags that prevented us from giving him that term and money. I am sure we had to overpay given the status of the franchise at the time.

Their offer to Girgs (assuming there is one) has to tell him all that he needs to know about his future here. They can't possibly bring both he and Okposo back if they can't kill penalties effectively. One of them has to go.

I am assuming that Ollo is also on his way out

Sure, if they're ok with a 2nd or 3rd round pick as the return in a trade.

If that is what the market bears, so be it. I can't imagine trying to bring him out there to rehab his value. I think he is who he is.
