True but knowing Reeves is coming after you might be the one guy who could deter.
- rpeters01

Look up the YouTube video of Matt Cooke’s career ending hit on Marc Savard. Look who was on the ice for the Bruins at the time and look who was on the roster, if Chara, Looch, McQuaid, Thornton, Stuart and Boychuck are unable to deter, there’s no chance Reeves or Wilson can.

Hmmmm....

1. Domi- Like his skillset and willingness to stick up for teammates but think he's priced out for term
2. Gamble on one of Monahan or Drouin, high risk/ high reward at TDL
3. Looch- I'm from an era of Manson/McGill/Russell/Grimson/Peluso/Probert, always want an enforcer
4. T. Hall- see if we can get him as a favor to Bruins to help them sign Bertuzzi/Orlov

This is just me thinking out loud, what playoff team is going to have the cash to sign him?

Good question Dots. Maybe the Avs at least for this year and/or he takes a discount/shorter term to win it? Or if the Leafs trade one of the Big 4 for prospects/ an young affordable D stalwart/he'd be a signing to make them tougher to play against?

Believe it or not, Carolina once Svechnikov comes back will have 24M in cap space and will only have to sign 5 players. I know Domi was there a couple of years ago and don't know whether they want him back or if he is their type of player. But when Sebastian Aho is one of your more physical forwards on the ice, as he was last night, they could use Domi. He 'll provide some physicality and secondary scoring.

Dallas can. They do not have any big raise RFA's up next year.

Buffalos and Detroit who are playoff bubble teams can.

After watching Vegas navigate the cap for the past 3 year's, and seeing how the GM's have experience in navigating the flat cap now, I don't get excited anymore when it appears the GM of a team is in dire need to shed players to get under the cap. That is so yesterday news.

Not sure what the order of my priorities are but, love to see some speed, compete and size. At least one or two middle 6 types with speed/skill/compete, some size/face puncher

Always liked Hathaway's ability to skate a bottom 6 shift and fight. Also brings some size....... To a much lesser degree Lemieux, Reeves or Watson to add some face punching

Always liked Garland. Lotta speed and compete and depending on slotting 55-60 pt player. His energy and motor are infectious, kinda player who drags his club into the fight. IIRC he has 3 yrs left on his contract and a lot of the prospects would come up seeing how an NHLer comes to play...... Checks a lot of boxes.

Bunting and Garland are close to the same player. Bunting is a UFA but Garland would need to be acquired.

Domi. Plays with pace, lotta compete, gritty player who has no problem sticking up for teammates. Give him the 3 yrs at 5 mil per.

Andrej Kase. 27 yr old UFA. Kid has always shown skill but can't stay healthy or be consistent. He might like a yr or two deal with top 6 minutes to show the league he can do it.

Always been a fan of 29 yr old UFA Evan Rodriguez. Can play center or wing, can slot up and down the lineup, lotta compete, can play with pace, depending on slotting 50 pt player. Not sure if he'd be interested in the Hawks though. 1 yr at a million or two overpay?

Bjugstad. 30 yr old UFA, size, tough dude, can play center or wing, has skated with top players.

Would love to see Garland or Bunting to skate with Bedard. Domi to skate with Bedard. Hathaway for toughness and size. Also interested in the other guys I listed but these three especially so.

Nyqyust
Tatar
Zucker

i would like to see them sign Athanaseu and put him at 3 C.. i always enjoy watching a one man breakout.

Paul, you bring this example up every time the subject of fighters/enforcers comes up and to a degree it's a good point. But IMO it's a bit of an outlier and from almost a different era. .......

Not many Cooke's left in the game, the rules for the most part make a guy like him obsolete. You mention Cooke was dirty even vs a tough Bruins roster but reason would have it there were times, probably a lot, that players behaved when playing the Bruins.

Maybe a Reeves type will deter a player from going after Bedard, maybe not. But I'll take those odds just the same, cuz maybe it helps.

Think you should sign Hornqvist, he has done wonders for the Cats this season just by hanging out with them while collecting his LTIR pay checks! He could do the same for your team!

I read somewhere he signed with hawks b/c he wanted to have a chance to play with Kane.

I know he enjoyed playing here the staff, city.

The goofy announcers thought Demi made $ by his play for Dallas and term.

I am not sure of anything, but I bet the side cars to Bedard are less important right now than getting the draft together.

I also kind of see it as the players who have had to take less like Domi and others see this as an opportunity to get that money back, as much fun as it is to win, most of them know there are a few teams with lots of monies available and their own careers are only so long.

After accounting for the cap hits of Bedard, Soderblom, probably Kurashev and possibly C Jones the Hawks will have 17 players on the roster and about 47.5M toward the cap floor. Add 2 D on ELCs for 2M. Then still need 4 contracts totaling 12 or 13M to reach the cap floor, either obtained via cap dump trades or free agent signings.

I don't want the 'hawks to sign anyone.

Bring in the Czech kid that is best buds with Connor Bedard, Columbus' Stashu Svozil,
Give Columbus a pick lower than the #69th 3rd rd (like a 2nd rounder) they spent on him.

Then Connor has a roommate.

Monahan?
Seems like he's fallen off a bit the last few years,it could be a rejuvenation project for himself. Where he plays alongside Bedard or mentors him a bit and then they send him to a playoff contender for some prospects etc ..

I know it is still waaay too early, but I'm also wondering if they'll be able to find a Raddysh or a Lafferty at the trade deadline next season as well

- captainserious

Not much out there in terms of UFA's:

Monahan had a really good start to this season before the season-ending groin injury. He may be a cheap add on a show-me contract for a contender without much cap space. I would not have a problem throwing more money at him as I think him a Bedard on PP#1 would be great. Do not see it happening but...

I know Toews is NOT coming back but I think he would be a great mentor for Bedard and could play 3rd or 4th line minutes to stay fresh/healthy.

Bunting would be a nice addition, but think a contender signs him.

Zucker is someone else I would target. Not that fast, but his skating ability is still above average. Carries the puck well.

Trade for T Hall - problem is Boston does not have a 1st this year or next, no 2nd round for the next 3 years, and they are 30th in terms of prospects. Doubt they would trade Lysell but would gladly trade for Hall and Lysell for a 3rd (Dallas) this year or a 3rd next year.

Sounds like something Stan would do, like bringing in Caleb to help Seth spend his money.

Maybe send Murphy back home to Columbus in a Svozil trade by exchanging some picks (Murphy plus a 3rd for #22 and Svozil?) Of course moving Murphy would increase the other spending needed to reach the floor.

Pronman and Wheeler at the Athletic are answering questions from their beat writers about what could happen at the draft. Lazerus writes in asking about the Hawks moving up from 19. Excerpt below.

The Blackhawks have so many early-round picks over the next three drafts, and now that they have Bedard, they’re more likely to try to package them and move up in the draft. Given the talent at the top of the draft, what do you think the Blackhawks would have to package with the No. 19 pick in order to move into the top 10 or the top 15? And just how much of a difference in talent would they be looking at in that range as opposed to No. 19? In other words, how expensive would it be to move up, and how worthwhile would it be to do so? —Mark Lazerus

Pronman: It all depends on the caliber of player you’re talking about to pick. Getting a player like Reinbacher, Leonard or Dvorsky would be a needle mover, but I don’t see 19 plus a second being enough to do that. If you’re not getting a true premium guy or a guy you have top eight or so on your team’s personal list, I don’t see the value in doing so. You’re going to get a player you are very passionate about at 19.

Wheeler: I won’t be surprised if the Blackhawks try to parlay some of their second-round draft capital in this class to move up, whether that’s with No. 19 to climb higher into the first round, or to make a play on another first-round pick or another high second. Given the core group of talent you’d likely be gaining access to by moving up from No. 19 even a few spots, though, I do think you’re looking at more than No. 19 and the earliest of their four seconds. We know they have a pick in the 30s, a pick in the 40s, and two picks in the 50s as things stand right now. Does No. 19 plus the pick in the 30s and one of the picks in the 50s get you into the top 15? Maybe? Is that a worthwhile play? I’d need to know who they’d be after.

Not so sure about that. It looks like they have about $6.5M in cap space, but they have only 9 forwards under contract and have Dellandrea to sign.

I would love to see the Hawks sign Domi and Bertuzzi. Both have toughness without the goon stipulation plus both have some offense. We need to get rid of some defensemen and start bringing these kids up to see how they adapt to the NHL. I think Guttman is a keeper and I hope they take a long look at Savoi.
