My recent post on the Leafs board;

You all should feel good about the hiring, look what a great job he's done as Panthers GM

Wait.....

I know it wasn't nice, and its piling on, but in my defense it is the Leafs

I've liked the idea of Garland to skate with Bedard right from the start. He checks a lot of boxes. High energy, plays with pace, at 27 yrs old and inked for 3 more yrs you'll get his prime yrs, he won't block any of the prospects over just 3 yrs, can effectively slot up and down a lineup and puts up 50ish pts with limited minutes and no PP time. Skate him with Bedard and some PP time I see him easily getting to the 60 pt mark.

I see Garland and Bunting as very similar players and are the same age. Bunting is a UFA and it's said a 5.5 mil per for 5 yrs is what is expected in free agency. Yes, Garland may be a bit overpaid but with VAN in cap trouble they have no leverage and I'm guessing at the very least would have to give Garland away like LVG did with Pacioretty.

Would love to get something for taking on Garland's salary but even if he were simple free I like the fit Garland brings.

- Mr Ricochet

Maybe that's part of KDs plan, kind of build like an expansion team, get Garland for considerations, keep draft capital, but maintain a healthy bottom line so he's not doing the cap dance sooner than later. It's all very interesting to me Rico

I see Wood is rated higher, but Honzek looks smoother skater, better stick handler.

One thing for sure, getting a good player at #19.

- vabeachbear
f

Yeah, and even though we keep hearing middle six tagged to that #19 draft area, there is a lot of upside there.

Wood is really quick brained and has a quick stick. He gets knocked for his skating but he will grow into his body co-rdination and is quite a load.

I have watch Honzek and although I flip flop on his skating improvement, he could be a kid whose abilities start raising his upside as he goes on.

I have seen so many different players be available at 19 in different mocks I really have no feel for who will be there.

Be happy with any of these four if they are there

Moore
Edstrom
Danielson
Colby Barlow

Heidt , Musty and But are okay too.

Each of those players have been there at 19 on some, picked later on others.

I think it just means the group of players between 10 and 20 can go anywhere in there and each have qualities that are appealing

And I don't think moving up in that range makes sense unless its a player the Hawks absolutely feel is head and shoulders above. I think its more likely to try to move up later in the draft.

- Elbows15

We agree!

I want to move up in front of the Red Wings in the second....

The question lately on Colby Barlow is..."Has he already past his maturity, growth, etc.
Is he maxed out in terms of his physical upside / growth?

A couple of interesting dates in that article. June 1 (today) signing rights to drafted players expire today. Tab Bamford at Bleacher nation speculates about 3 of them that may interest the Hawks. One of them is Ben Roger, 2nd round Ottawa pick, 6-4 200 pound RHD. Obviously he's got size. Don't know anything else about him, but the team could use a RD prospect especially if they don't qualify Regula or Mitchell.

Also June 30 is the deadline for RFA qualifying offers. We'll see what KD does with Kurashev. C. Jones, Regula and Mitchell to name a few.

In case anyone wants to check it out, here is a link to Chris Peters top 100 players in this year's draft

https://www.flohockey.tv/...top-flohockeys-final-list

It isn't a mock draft but rather a ranking of players.

Honzek at 19
Hrabal at 35

I know Wiz has changed his mock drafts a few times, but I remember seeing Hrabal at 35 in one of Wiz's mock drafts.
Cool list

wiz who in your opinion, is sleeper player in the 1st two rounds that might go unnoticed but could be a steal in the future for a team.

Looks like the Sens are no longer interested. He and 2 others will go back in the draft pool.

I believe it's dependent on their age. The article states these 3 will go back in the draft pool.

Be nice if the draft went like this, if it does i can see KD trying to trade back into the late 1st round

I’d like to see KD look at the unsigned draft picks or possibly Logan Cooley if the rumours about him being unsure about the Coyotes is true.

That really has to suck for franchises, it kind of did when Hayes did that to us. But yea definitely kick the tires to see if he's available

Mentioned Cooley last night (He is returning to MN for year 2 and mentioned his disappointment in the arena vote results). the price might be too high but KD should be asking as he looks to be the real thing.

This mock draft (linked in the quotes above) has us picking Whitelaw with #19 but this ranking (not mock draft- just player ranking) has Whitelaw as #76 on their list. That is a huge disparity. Not saying either is correct, but shows you why some picks have people scratching their heads.

KD has built up an awful lot of draft capital, is Cooley worth some of that? I’ve read some scouting reports but I’d have to digress to someone who has seen Cooley play.
