Except when he played for the Maple Leafs and Jets.

That athletic article Rossi and Yohe just published is franking nuts. Makes me hate Hextall even more than I already did.
- burgh4life87

To be fair to Hextall/Burke... they were hired with the task to rebuild and move on from Letang/Geno. When the sale went down and FSG wanted to change course, Hextall was insubordinate (and dumb).

That's why I hate Morehouse. Can't believe he wanted to move in that direction. Glad he jumped ship too.

I'm just messing around. He seems to be one of the big names to make the jump to GM. I would have liked him here tbh.

Really surprised we went in a different direction. It seemed like the perfect marriage for FSG and Tulsky. I'd imagine they wanted someone with a little more experience given how quickly this new guy will need to hit the ground running.

Its pretty crazy that an expansion team in its first six seasons have been in the final four, four times, and cup final once...and looking like they'll get back to final again this year.

6 years of existence....4 WCF's and 2 SCF's. That's f'n bonkers.

That expansion draft, with its rules and setup, was insanely favorable for them.

If Chris Mack beat up Colin Dunlap, he should never have to buy another beer in Pittsburgh again.

Not really. Being able to pick from teams third lines and number 4 d men down shouldn’t have allowed this. It’s the aggressiveness they showed taking advantage of other teams cap situations and in pursuing big trades and signings.

Yeah, you're right. Furthermore with what you've said I think there's also Francis wasnt near as aggressive as McPhee coupled with the GM's having experience of the Vegas draft only a handful of years before Seattle's. A draft that had Vegas in cup final in their first season.

Pretty smart move for the NHL with its Vegas expansion. It was a first mover in the LV sports world. It was only a matter of time until the other sports leagues moved there so the NHL knew they had a small window to build a loyal following. No question the Golden Knights have a large group of supporters in that market because they were competitive from day 1.

Well a lot of teams weren't prepared for the Vegas ED. Heck, teams asked Vegas to take both Marchessault and Karlsson by giving Vegas other assets. Same with getting a 2nd rounder to take MAF. When Seattle came around, GM's actually wised up a bit and didn't bite like Francis was hoping. But they built a hard-working team and made some nice moves to be able to become a team that is at least in the conversation.

I think Seattle is what the nhl thought vegas would be. Hopefully competitive in their first couple years. Vegas just nailed it going after those cap strapped teams. And Francis asked for too much. Holding firm on a 1st and 3rd to take bad contracts. Too expensive

I always believed Morehouse had no business running the Penguins. He's a creature from the political world. That's why the Steelers just hired him to extort taxpayer money for something. While I think Hexy was awful, I agree with Boyd where he doesn't deserve all the blame. He got hired with one directive only to have the script flipped in the blink of an eye.

That article confirmed what I believe... Sullivan and Sid have all the power.

If this is totally true, I'm fine with it. Though I do think ALL the power is a bit of stretch. From that article the Pens would of been a lot better had Hex did what Sully wanted. How many times have we said around here the past 7 years that Sully and the GM, whether it was Ruth or Hex, were not on same page?

It's just a tough structure to work with for a GM. While I generally think it's good to cater to your best personnel, It might be harder to make some changes when other opinions are part of the equation.

I'm not fine with it, but I understand it.

I'm not giving him any credit. I know he wanted Trochek instead of Malkin and he would have wasted Letang's cap space on someone else useless. He killed the flyers and then tried to kill us. I'm just hoping we can dump some of his bad deals and bring in something else.
