Even the Defense, many times they looked lost this year. I think most of the issues are on the players, but better coaching can help as well.

Yeah don’t get me wrong I would rather have Lameriello then Dufas from Toronto. I was dreading the idea of that twerp coming here. With that said there has to be some changes made. I would say if any are made it would be MacLean that gets the ax. He’s the easiest choice for obvious reasons.

I wonder what the overall reaction will be with Lou returning? I would have made a change, but I'm not very upset either.

The reaction to Andrew Gross’s tweet has not been positive. I get it somewhat but the vast majority of the people don’t want lameriello here for the wrong reasons. It like they don’t actually know why they dislike him. I have my issues with lameriello but it’s based on real things not hey I don’t like the guy bcs we didn’t beat the canes.

I have no issue with him coming back this season I don’t need to go over why I’ve done that enough times.

There’s some on here every season that say I’m sure someone will take Bailey and it never happens. Believe me he has been shopped for the last two seasons. Maybe this is our luck year. Also, he proved this season he can’t play anymore.

Didn't he protect Bailey over Eberle in the expansion draft? If there was a Bailey related mistake by Lou that would be it.

Bailey and Eberle were both exposed in the expansion draft. Seattle made the wise choice.

I’m not defending Bailey by any means but the guy can add something to a crappy team. He’s never had a defined role on this team in all his years. I’m sure he can play 2nd line minutes as a set up guy on a team like the coyotes or even the flyers for that matter. Arguing if they could have moved him last season is moot. They will move him somewhere, and I think he’s got some value to someone looking for an assist/set up guy
- kindlyrick

I don't agree with this at all. They've continually given him defined roles, but he has simply never performed consistent enough to be worthy of remaining in them. The guy has consistently played as a top six winger, PK and PP guy for several years now. When he struggled and was replaced, he always managed to find himself BACK in those roles. No one on this team has been given the opportunity to succeed on our top line and PP more than Bailey
If it were so easy to move Bailey due to his heavily desired skillset, it would have likely already happened.
Unfortunately, as has happened with a few Isles in the past, I think we tend to place a higher valuation than they are worthy of. I wouldn't be so sure that teams trying to rebuild are chomping at the bit to add Bailey.

Yeah all due respect to kindlyrick but Bailey has been give any, every, and everything in between opportunity to succeed on this team. Maybe more then any other player I’ve seen in my life with his production. He was a good soldier for us for years but his time is up with this team at least. Or at least it should be. Wish him the best hopefully he finds his game again with someone else.

You’re putting words in my mouth. I’m simply saying that Bailey never matured into a role….any role. He’s been asked to be center, wing in the top 6, and then he was asked to be a checking winger in a defensive role. I’m not defending him and I’m certainly not saying he’s a highly sought after player. All I’m saying is Bailey making 5 million to sit in the press box was the wrong move. Im saying if Lou got Ladd off the roster he could have done the same for Bailey. Eat some salary, who cares. Just be done with another Snow draft bust.

He’s a bust…..another draftee who “has character”. Add him to the list of Strome, Nino, MDC, Reinhardt, Bellows, etc all of whom either never carved a full time spot, or couldn’t make it at the NHL level (Nino being the best but never staying with a team). The only difference is that Bailey was given the opportunity to morph into a defensive forward after being drafted as a playmaker, and he failed on both the top 6 AND bottom 6 of this team. Not sure why it’s assumed I’m defending Bailey. He’s another Snow bust who overstayed his welcome.

Bailey was far from a bust. He carved himself out a nice little career for himself. I never agreed with his utilization and was never a fan but you have to respect the guy a bit. I wouldn’t consider him a bust.

I can’t name another player in the league that long, who’s never had a role or linemates. The only reason why he’s lasted this long, is because the isles were a country club for years, and it allowed him time to “try” and be a defensive forward

We gave up two 2nd round picks and a third for the honor of being able to trade Ladd to the Yotes. It’s not like they came knocking on our door looking for his services. Same goes for Bailey. If we don’t buy him out whoever we trade him too is getting something along with him for taking him and his salary.

He’s had plenty of roles and plenty of linemates he just never excelled at any one thing. He’s just not that good of a player and never was. The problem with how we handled him was creating this perception that he was something he wasn’t which was a good player. He never was a good player. He was a mediocre player and should have been treated as such.

A mediocre player who was given a contract from snow because he’s a good guy. There’s been a lot of those bad contracts. I’m not saying it’s an easy thing to move, but he’s never been in a role in his entire career, yet he’s still here

I'm not disagreeing, but every once in while he would look like a good player. He'd play a few good games then disappear again.

may go down as best trade in history. For me at least. Ladd was one of the biggest PoS contracts ever. Side note, is Nylander. fA?

I think when saying he never had a defined role, you're sort of answering your own comment. Bailey has been asked to do a lot of roles over time but has typically been removed from them due to his lack of consistency. That said, he was given some pretty long looks in those roles.
As far as the second bolded comment, I think the point of debate here was that it would not be easy to unload Bailey without having to give something up. Ladd being dealt cost us two 2nd round picks, so it wasn't like we just magically made him disappear. Arizona was also desperate to add payroll at the time. There had been some suggestions that the Isles already tried to unload Bailey but couldn't find takers..
I think we're all in agreement that we want him gone, but maybe not on the same page in terms of just how eager a team would want to add him. We can't really afford to deal away yet another 2nd rd pick, so living with him for another year may be a consideration (much to our disappointment)
