It's very possible and maybe another coach can do better. I'm just not sure how much better if the Cap will prevent the Islanders from making bigger roster moves.

I don't know, maybe. I know Trotz went with a defense-first scheme, so scoring wasn't a priority, but this team just doesn't score. Not enough anyway. We had 3 guys with 20+ goals and a bunch with single-digit goals. Obviously Nelly was a beast this season, but there has to be others that score. Maybe a full season of Horvat will change that. And of course, once again, the power play sucked. They've been in the bottom 10 (maybe bottom 12) for at least the past 20 years. Something HAS to change with that. You just can't go 1 for 18 on the PP and expect to advance. I don't know if that's line combos, chemistry, system or talent, but it just has to change. You've got one of the best goalies in the league, a fairly good D-core and some talent up front. I guess we'll see what happens. Anyone know what time Lou's presser is supposed to happen?

Would be very odd as Lou is the one who picked Lane. Lou made the Bo move and then Barzal got hurt and was rusty when the playoffs started. Lane may not be the long-term answer, but getting one year would be rough and especially when the roster is not that strong.

Multiple sources have speculated that. Go back to Jersey when he was the GM. He did approximately five times with Jersey. Real question would be, who would the replacement be? We shall see this afternoon what path Lou takes.

Nice hits and nasty PO hockey. You gotta love it!
- nyisles7

The hits have been huge !!! lots of intensity...Cats have been undisciplined, flat at times and have not answered the bell. I am little disappointed.

Could be Lou also announcing his future plans with the team and who the successor will be?
- nyisles7

Well it will give us something to discuss at the very least.

Conversely, Vegas has looked sharp, fast, on their toes and seem more aggressive than Florida.

I believe the guy is a great coach and when we were first talking about Lou possibly making a coaching change I was on board with it. Admittedly that was before I really knew the story with Kyle Beach. After digging into that a little bit more I want nothing to do with the guy. I also don’t believe Lameriello is going with a new coach but who knows coaches have been disposable throughout Lou’s career.

Lou replacing a coach would not be a surprise at all. Just a lot more works needs to be done. Where did you see Lou is having a press conference today?

Stephan Rosner posted it the other day then Gross picked it up and confirmed. I don’t expect anything ground breaking to come out of it.

Though you never do know with this guy…

I have no idea what to expect. Could be Lambert getting fired, could be Lou retiring, could be Lou stepping aside to a President of Hockey Ops-type role, or it could be a big nothingburger....not a god damn clue

Lou being just President and having another GM would make sense. Lane could be replaced. but it would be very surprising after one year. Could Lou be unhappy with Dobson's struggles?

I don't think Lou is holding a press conference to address Dobson's subpar season.

It could just be a very delayed end-of-season house-cleaning press conference and nothing interesting. But if that's the case then I'm a little surprised that they wouldn't have just done it on break-up day like every other year. It feels like something newsworthy is going to be announced. Maybe nothing massive, but something.

I’m expecting something along the lines of we’re excited with this group but we’ll do everything we can to improve the team.

I meant in terms of replacing Lane and Dobson's struggles.

I have to think it will be somewhat newsworthy. Do you think it's been decided for a while now that Chris L will be taking over or that is just rumors? If Chris is taking over, this offseason might be the time for him to learn under Lou. It's not looking like the Islanders can do much this offseason so the pressure will be less on Chris. No idea just throwing things out.

That's what I expect.

Just the timing of the whole thing feels weird to me. If that's all he has to say then I'm curious why he didn't just say it on break-up day like every single other team?

Maybe something is going on. Rosner is now saying lambert won’t be at news conference. Said it may mean nothing but it’s at least something to note. We shall see…

Yeah I saw that tweet. I mean it makes sense that he probably went home after they were eliminated and exit interviews and everything wrapped up. But who knows. All of it is a little odd to me.

If it turns out to be nothing, I'd be interested to hear if he addresses what the delay was for.

I’m not sure what you’re expecting him to say? None of these GM’s get up there and say anything all of the fans want to hear least of all Lou. If you’re expecting him to say he’s going to make sweeping changes you’re more then likely going to be disappointed with todays news conference. Even if he were, other then a coaching change which maybe there’s a slight chance, I doubt he would say anything anyway. Look who we’re talking about. The guy is as tight as a clam.

But who knows? Lou keeps you guessing bcs he never says anything then blam he surprises you with something.

It does not make sense to have a press conference if you have nothing significant to add. Nobody expects Lou to talk FA or trade plans. I would think L & M would be involved if it's an announcement that Lou is coming back. A coaching change or announcing Lou is coming back as GM are reasons for a press conference. We'll find out soon I guess.
