Do you know the difference between amateur and pro scouting?
- CanuckDon

I will ask you do you? I am not being a smart ass.

Who do you think discovered Petey and was he an amateur or pro scout?

Yes, you are right. I forgot that... don't forget that this management had a bowl of lemons on the table. Credit where credit is due.
- boonerbuck

I believe management had a good relationship with Millstein from the Pens days. It’s a relationship business and that’s important

If a player is eligible for the amateur draft he is scouted by the amateur scouting department. If he isn’t, scouting/ responsibility falls on the pro scouting department. Clancy and Allvin have a pretty good rep on the pro side and likely have a hand in some of the recent successes

Poor comp given the prices paid to aquire these players. Krav was free. Dermott was a 3rd they miraculously obtained from trading Hamonic. Stillman was a cap dump which resulted in Bear. Dermott is inconclusive given his injuries and at least Stillman was moved for a decent prospect.

Benning would have doubled down on his mistakes and traded high picks for his reclamation project.

How did you rope me into an Allvin v benning argument lol. I’m not even saying I like Allvin yet I’m just saying he is an upgrade so far. There are two posters on here that disagree.

- CanuckDon

Krav was for Lockwood so not free.

Stillman was just brutal, no need to go back there again.

I am not even saying I don't like Allvin. I am saying same mistakes new group of faces.

Dermott was for cap space and a third.

Kuze is the most positive thing that has happened under them so far. can't take that away that's for sure.

I would trade Krav for Lockwood one for one without hesitation. Not that Lockwood is a great asset or anything... and it's in hind sight... but Krav is terrible.

You do realize that three of the five Pro scouts are Benning scouts. I am not sure about Neil Komadoski.

Most of the big finds have come from the Amateur Scouting.

Lockwood is a UFA that wasn’t worth a new contract

I would have made the trade too Low Risk High Reward. Not every trade turns the way you want it to.

They have different bosses. Their new NCAA guy seems to be doing a good job as well

I can't verify that because I have seen Hirose only play two periods. McDonaugh is a Benning pick and Sasson I have never seen.

I don't hold a lot of stock in NCAA. I see that as me getting excited about fourth and fifth round picks.

There ya go

So only one new pro scout for this new group and no real wholesale changes.

Hell bent on the almighty draft picks. There was no upside to trading Kuz & never was. Any trade would’ve started with a 1st+. Top 4 RHD more ideal but those are rare to get. Kuz to a PO team with a great prospect pool like eg NJD but they got Meier. LAK but Clarke was untouchable. The trade partners are slim. So he resigns.

I like using 4ths & 5ths on USHL & high school type D & C. Other choice is on big mobile defensive D without much offence. Non traditional Euro hockey powers might mine a gem. AJHL & BCJHL is worth a flyer if any of interest. The last 2 are highly speculative needing some great scouting & even more luck.

Lord H goes a little extreme but is almost funny correct when he says all the players should have a contract of a million dollars on Canucks. We love our cap space and draft picks if it was up to Hockey Buzz.

I don't give a sh!t about drafting anymore. I say over and over you have to win big or lose big and this club is stuck in no man's land so why bother getting excited.

I’m referring to his communication and ability to convince NCAA free agents to sign. Not a strength in the past

Edit. Looks like the Canucks are close to signing another NCAA RHD. More depth 👍🏻

I like the draft but it’s a feeder system for on their way to Abby.

NML is what our D has got us. Been a problem for longer than I care to remember. Poor past coaching choices made it even worse. When the farm has squat it is a slow death into mediocrity at the best.

I look around the NHL and look see how many undrafted NCAA players are making an impact and I can say it is not enough for me to care about.

When I had seen the list of the who's who I thought big deal.

Like I said what I have seen from Hirose (all 2 periods) I have nothing to complain about yet.

Three generations of of GMs with the same owner saying he wants to make money now. Until that changes I will look in on the day they draft and see the new additions but that is where the excitement ends unless we win the Lotto.
