I should have elaborated but I like your example best. My point was, some of the best finds don’t have to come from a first or second overall pick.

i got you. lets see if he can continue over the years. for all their down years, watch buffalo have bad luck and he's the next cheechoo. but again good for him

They’ve acquired the young talent, good job there. Hopefully we can aquire some real good prospects. Hexy was horrid and not sure Fletcher squired anything top end either. What are our two best players, TK and York. Pathetic.

one ron one chuck. but will say york looks like he will be better than sanhiem and provie. provie was better coming into the league and younger, but had a man's body.

you talked about trading provie. i think he or travis is gone. if it is provie, is sanhiem your 1 Ld or york?

Time will tell. I don’t know if you’d really call either your #1, maybe the top two pairs have similar minutes.

I don't know about that Courtier guy but Sean Couturier is a two-time Selke finalist (one-time winner), two-time 30+ goal scorer and had no recent injuries of concern before the back issues (after the contract was signed). There was every reason to expect the contract to age similarly to Bergeron and Kopitar.

Any time you ask a player to preemptively forego UFA year(s), it means an overpay in cap/term is going to be involved.

- bmeltzer

Couturier will never, ever put numbers up that are commensurate with his new contract, let alone do it for the next 8 years. He has played 12 years of hard minutes and now has had 2 back surgeries. He should have been traded with a year left, regardless of his back issue which happened after the signing. Instead, Fletcher played the only hand he knows - all in. Standard rule of thumb for me is never have a contract extend into age year 34.

With the way the Flyers reward former players one would think they could go to coots and say dude - thanks for the effort - here is 4 years at 7.75 - retire and we will pay you 8M a year for three years to hang out with some of the bullies and shake hands with fans - if you dont like that - then we will pay you the same dollar/term to hang out in the office a few days a week

What numbers are we talking about. There is always a chance that Couturier can come back healthy and get back to where he was.

Yeah I certainly didn’t mean that dude serving the royal family, but I can certainly agree that Courtier does not deserve any NHL contract. Lol. As far as the one we all know as Coots, while I see your point, Bill, and absolutely respect your take and knowledge, I really don’t see Couturier as a star up there with the likes of Bergeron and Kopitar. Those other guys have, for many years, been part of a leadership group that excelled in not only individual excellence but we’re able to be catalysts in repeated deep playoff pushes and some Stanley Cup rings. Unfortunately we will never know if SC14 could’ve excelled in such a way since he’s been injured (not his fault) for 2 seasons and now the team is apparently in a full rebuild.

He was all in because he thought he had a royal flush, but all he had was a ripped king of clubs high card.

Couturier hasn't been on teams that were capable of that. With the exception of 2010 when he was very young. Couturier when healthy is a player that controls the ice. Shuts down the other team and scores at a high level himself. That player in my opinion is absolutely capable of being a top player on a cup level team.

Flyers headed in the right direction for draft position. Need to keep the momentum going. Need CHI to keep winning.

Couturier and Konecny soon back. They are going to blow this to.

Konecny's not back soon. Coots might make some late season appearances, but what impact can really be expected from him? I think we're good.

edit: woah... farabee lives.

I don’t care if they have the same points or whatever the fancy numbers folks dug up. Tippet has some serious talent and a higher ceiling than Frost . If he could find some consistency and bring his A game more often than not he’s a serious player

Tippet is a goal scorer but Frost is involved in more scoring chances. If the Flyers had better finishers in the lineup. Frost's assist total would be significantly higher. Tippet has the shot and release to be a 30 goal scorer in this league, maybe more but there's not much else to his game. At least not yet. Frost is the better all around player and with his shot and ability to score 20 or so plus his playmaking ability. I think he has the potential to be the better overall point producer.

Here’s my concern. Even if we out-tank the Habs, I think they still have the 5th best odds because of a trade with Florida. It’s almost the same if we end up worse than they do and Florida misses the WC spot.

We’re looking at a guy like Sale if we whiff on our lottery pick.

Then there’s an outside chance that Michkov is ignored before our slot because he’s going to play a contract in the KHL first. That could scare some teams away. He could fall to someone who is willing to put their draft pick on ice (so to speak), continue to rebuild, and then bring him over when he reaches his prime. It could be like getting a Kaprizov injection down the line as you build a roster.
