When was Mike Keenan GM of the Canucks? He traded for Bertuzzi as Panthers Gm.

He wasn't ever officially GM but he did act in that capacity for about 6 months after Pat Quinn was fired.

I think a lot of fans underestimate how involved ownership is in shaping the direction of their team on the playing surface. GMs are paid to be day-to-day stewards, but also to be public dart boards.
Not in Van, we definitely know.

He had that written in his contract that he had to approve trades. When Burke was hired and reminded of this clause by Keenan, Burke then reminded Keenan that it was in his contract , that he had the power to fire the coach.

Hronek ranks 3rd amongst all NHL D in Penalty Kill GAR this season.

He is a terrific penalty killer.

He only lasted a season and a half as Canucks coach.

Always funny when the meat heads show up after the Bruins lose a game. I realize it a rarity, so I can understand how they feel, kinda like when the Canucks win a game, how elated the guzzler crowd becomes.

Hey - if we were picking around 10th - think it would be a decent idea to trade down with a team like Wash, Nash, Det, Buff - to the mid to late teens and potentially acquire a 2nd as payment?

Some of the potential draft targets you posted yesterday seemed like they could be available around there.

DET fans say he was the beneficiary of strong penalty-killing forwards

They'd be happier to move the pick for someone who can help now. I don't see them keeping the pick if it's middle of the pack.

Draw you're own conclusions when you see him in the lineup next season.

I plan to, just giving context as to what others are saying. I've basically never seen him play so I don't have an opinion yet.

They should have traded that pick too for the playoff push. I expect we will be drafting 14 th and trading the pick.

The only way they are moving it is to attach it to OEL.

Seems like a good player, I wonder if he want's to be here? Pretty quiet when it comes to this TDL prize they picked up. Other teams would be pumping his tires big time.

It wouldn't surprise me. OEL is riding the gravy train out the same way Loui did.

Interesting stuff from Serevalli yesterday about Arizona. He says there will be a referendum about the new arena and the very real possibility of relocation to Huston.

He says owners are pissed at the franchise and at Gary for saving them so long now and being a burden on the league. He says player hate playing for that team.

He also mentioned there will be talks at the GM meetings next week about issues like LTIR and cap. He says one of the big topics they will be having is about the time frame a player can sit out with a potential upcoming trade involved.

He definitely seems by all fan/analytic accounts to be a pretty talented defenseman, hoping he lives up to the hype.

He traded Linden for Bertuzzi, McCabe and Ruutu. One of the greatest trades in franchise history.
- golfingsince

I'd have Benning ahead of Harry Neale at #6.

Solid Hockey man.

Keenen last where he should be.

Hockey writer guy said that he went two years without an interview in Detroit. Sounds like a very quiet guy who just goes about his job. Ala Tanev. He is having 1 heck of a year as 2nd pair this year.

I'd say overall career wise he has played very good as a 2/3 guy. It's a huge upgrade for 20 minutes a game over guys that are playing as 5/6/7 normally.

Price is getting better with every game Nucks and Isle win too.
