JTM is clearly the better player, not saying Schmaltz is an upgrade. But it's sort of resetting the contracts, making sure JTM isn't an anchor, and giving yourself a bit of flexibility while solidifying a solid 2C. Hopefully with a better roster Schmaltz can get some more points as well.
As for the toughness, hopefully they can trade Garland or Boes this offseason, and have some tougher wingers. - NewYorkNuck
I think for Canucks to trade JTM they would want a knock your socks off return. I am with Booner on this one, he is here for a long time.
To me it is looking like Garland is going to be the odd man out or he will be playing on the Aman Joshua line.
I am guessing they will sign Bear, keep Myers for his last year and put OEL on LTIR.

The rumor around the TDL was they were up for trading JTM, though they knew they needed to trade for a center in the same breath to replace him. I don't think it has to be a crazy good return, just a good enough return to flip for his replacement.

I think a lot of people wanted JTM moved because that contract is just too long for starters.
I think the big thing different about this year from last is now they like their coaching staff. I think they feel they have the right people in place to play the way they want to play.
My guess with Myers is they are on the hook for his five mil bonus so where will they find another RHD his caliber for the remaining one mil. I know it is cap we are talking about but the other side is it would cost FA real dollars so I can see them hanging on to him one more year if he finishes strong this year.
I really think they will add on the D by something as simple as LTIR for OEL. Just my guess.
