Well, at that age, I dunno. You've got a mixture of 16 to 20 year olds with the age of majority being 18 to 19 (depending on the province). I think allowing a 20 year old to pummel a 16 year old in this day and age is problematic.

Pittsburgh utterly dominating Ottawa 41-14 in shots....yet losing 1-0

Pens lose, Fla wins.

Soon there won’t be a winner. Everyone will get a participation trophy!
For years the ages have been the same and the leagues were so much tougher and way more fighting.
Seems like the cancel culture has fighting in hockey in their sights.
Makes sense that the Q will crumble first.

With the Penguins' loss last night, the Isles now control their own destiny to make the playoffs. But they need to start by winning tonight against the Leafs, a team that is only really competing for home ice vs. Tampa..........not entirely insignificant, but not quite the same level of motivation as the Isles have.

Sounds like you need a good ass kicking!

On a serious note. Guys don’t really get their bell rung during fights. They do get their bells rung with targeted head shots and hitting from behind. These hits will increase if the players can’t hold the offenders accountable.

Honestly how many guys miss games because of an injury after fighting ? Ed Hospodar is the last that comes to mind of course you can find a few. What did Beagle do to have Asham kick his ass? Nothing? Gave Letang a cheap shot and knocked off his helmet? Asham just holding Beagle accountable and protecting his teammate and star player. Beagle didn’t do that again that’s for sure.
My opinion, if you take fighting out of the game completely the head targeted hits and hits from behind will increase. Liberties will be taken if no one makes the offender answer the bell.
Just my opinion of course.

Asham was a guy I wish we had never let leave.

Meanwhile, there's no telling how many guys ended up with CTE from fights over the years. Certainly guys like Belak, Probert and Todd Ewen felt that their fights led to their early demise.
I think it was estimated a couple of years ago that about 10%:of NHL conclusions resulted from fighting. I'd bet that number is a good bit higher, since players don't get pulled off for protocol like they do after a big hit.

He was great agreed.
You ask players if they think fighting should be out of the game I bet a majority would say no. Especially star players that don’t fight but benefit from a teammate holding scumbags accountable. Especially the way the league lacks to punish players appropriately.
I personally had 3 concussions and they were all from hits. ( I know, now you know what’s wrong with me )

Derek Boogaard is a perfect example of someone who suffered serious CTE as a result of fights.........so serious that he took his own life.

It's very true that there has always been overwhelming player support for fighting to remain. I'm not really sure what my overall stance on it is, frankly. I will say that I think stats on fights resulting in conclusions are drastically undercounted for the reason I mentioned.. We had a major lawsuit a couple of years ago with 300 some former players looking for compensation due to head injuries in the league. It won't likely be the last of its kind and fighting will most certainly face more scrutiny as time goes by

Personally, and selfishly, I enjoy a good fight, especially if the Islander is the fight winner. But to pretend that they accomplish something like preventing dirty hits from behind is a pipe dream. The NHL has the ability to come down harder on dirty hits, and outlaw fighting, but fights sell tickets, so they (the NHL) are reluctant to do it.

Fact. I've never seen a hockey fan disgusted by a fight during a game
Nothing made me happier than watching Gillies torch Dave the Hammer (though I knew him and he's an AWESOME guy), or Cairns on Corson.
That said, I dont believe for a second that Tom Wilson has ever thought, "I better not hit that guy, Ross is in the lineup"

This is out of left field, but isn't it amazing how much better the Rangers have played since they unloaded Ryan Reaves?

Well is it time to cancel all contact sports with a history of their players falling to CTE? There are risks that players in contact sports take and are aware of.
Fighting is typically done with both combatants agreeing vs blind side and head shots/hits. Typically in this case one player is taking advantage of a certain situation with the other player typically unaware the assault is coming.

Yes and no. The league has been slowly eradicating fighting for years now. It’s like they are weaning the fanbase off of it. Implementing the instigator penalty was one of the biggest mistakes the league made imo.

Huh? Who's talking about canceling sports? The question is just whether fighting in hockey should be encouraged, tolerated, or discouraged in light of the latest medical science on CTEs. Only you tend to take extreme hockeybuzz positions, which of course you are entitled to do as a bone fide hockeybuzz GM.

Because of CTE that’s the issue. So start with Fighting in hockey and then sports with history of CTE will be fair game. I’m enemy #1 of the Girls Club so no where near official HBGM
