Ottawa lost. Now this team has control over that last wild card spot.

They got some help! You're right, they now control their own destiny. I'm still most worried about Florida. If Bobrowsky gets hot, they could make things dicey for the Islanders.

They are flawed in that they have too much of the same player. Just think of where this team might be without Horvat.

The lone goal last night was an accident. You cannot have 15 to 16 of your players in effective every night. This team only has two of the twelve forwards that are legitimate Top 6...Lee is borderline...Sorry Piggy....Palmers has digressed...

Your top two lines were -3 and -2 respectively.

When the boys are cold you are going to feel the chill.

Lee has been a legit top 6 forward the last 7 years. He is on pace for 30 goals again. You take out the year he got hurt and only played 27 games in which he still scored 12 goals he has averaged right at 30 goals a year. If that's not top 6 then I don't know what is. It might not be pretty, but he is an absolute beast down below and along the boards. Anders Lee slander will not be tolerated on this page

Below is his goals scored the last 7 seasons.

16-17 Season 34 goals
17-18 Season 40 goals
18-19 Season 28 goals
19-20 Season 20 goals (68 games)
20-21 Season 12 goals (27 games)
21-22 Season 28 goals
22-23 Season 26 goals (14 games left)

Yeah, but how many goals did he score in the last game?

Lee is definitely a top 6 guy. It's top 3 that I question.

Agree. He is probably a 2nd liner at this point but wouldn't kill you if thrown on the 1st line at times.

Let me ask you this...early on in Nelson's career when he was scoring a consistent 20 and it was not in key games or difference makers. Would you have rated him a Top 6 guy? I will give the first three plus years Lee was...To me a top 6 guy is a difference maker night in and night out. I am not saying your point of view is incorrect. I just do not view it that way.

He is another way of looking at it. We he be a top six on most of the top teams currently in the league. I would say no. Top 9 yes.

How many teams in the NHL have guys on their 3rd line who regularly put up 25 plus goals a year? Without looking it up I would say not many. You could count the teams on one hand and probably wouldn't need all five fingers either.

Yes. Nelson even in those days wasn't much different from the many other streaky 20-goal scorers that are acquired all the time at trade deadlines to boost scoring on playoff teams. A lot of those players aren't complete players that can elevate everyone around them, but they are able to find open ice and finish enough to complement an already solid line.

Not every "top six forward" is a difference maker night in and night out. Lines are made up of different types of players. You certainly need players like that on the line, but you also need players with specific skills that complement those players.

Lee, for example, is easily a top-six player, but isn't a guy who's going to drive a line's production. He's not going to create opportunities off the rush all by himself. If you already have those types of players on a line, though, Lee can round it out nicely by finishing off dirty plays in front of the net and battling along the boards...things those other players on the line might not do enough of.

Maybe for a top line that holds true but to say every 2nd line in the league is a difference maker night in and night out is just not true.

You make another valid argument. I am willing to change my original vote and place Lee back in the top 6 for the Isles.

I would like to think the Isles have more motivation not to reward the Wings with a top pick.

Making the playoffs and knocking out the Bruins would be epic.
