He made a couple of noticeable nice defensive plays in our end in the third.

I’m beginning to wonder why we may possibly resign Mayfield.

Lee was great!! This Hudson Fasching kid….wow. He’s gotta stay in the lineup.
- kindlyrick

i cannot see any reason why he should be taken out or sent back down. The kid plays with a ton of heart and I like he isn’t a bad skater as well.

Not sure what is with all of the Islanders hate with espn and tbs. I can understand if you’re not an islanders fan you could find them boring but for their commentators to bash them for playing to their strengths is confusing.

Also Im watching the Avs kings game right now and I’m not sure what makes this game more interesting. POV not very intense at all.

Aho might have had his best game of the year. He still scares me in his own end sometimes but he is slowly proving me wrong 😑
- Vukota

He’s been, dare I say, the best guy to skate the puck out of our zone which I really don’t know how to take. He’s been…better.

Streaks, LOL

He had more good plays than bad plays for sure. That said I still say his spot needs to be upgraded. It seemed like there was a long stretch where all of our dmen were struggling to endure the Pens forecheck. It was all very reminiscent of their struggles in Dec & January. Fortunately they found another gear

So Buffalo gives up a TD and FG to Dallas
Washington continues their plummet losing to NJ in a shootout.
Ottawa was up 3-0 over Seattle but it's now tied. A gift from Seattle would pit us in control of our own destiny
Saturdays games will all be fun to follow

So…I don’t like putting things like winning percentage against at a premium because we seem to play up-and-down to our level of opponent often but Ottawa (2nd hardest) and Buffalo (7th hardest) have daunting schedules left. Detroit, they’re probably out of it at this point, has the hardest. A lot of those teams, Florida included, have to play each other often. Good for us. Not to mention Pittsburgh plays the Rangers 3 times. Someone has to lose.

What we need to do is beat the Caps, we play them 3 times more, split with Tampa (at least) and take care of business otherwise. That west coast trip coming up has to be a minimum of 4 points out of 6. Minimum. Team has to keep playing with the playoff mentality. Worry about how you feel playoff-time when you clinch it.

Engval doesn’t seem to be adjusting to the Isles system very well. I never noticed him when he was a leaf (maybe not his fault with all the firepower on that team), but I was pretty excited to see him with the isles after hearing how high Lou was on him, and how he was described as a player. Hopefully he gets going, but so far I’m a little disappointed.

Aho was arguably our best defenseman last night which isn’t saying much. They were all fairly putrid through two periods imo. I say that while acknowledging we managed to hang in there through those two periods but that had a lot to do with Sorokin imo. Mayfield was atrocious not just due to the three consecutive minors but to his abysmal play. Wouldn’t have a problem moving on from him at this point unless we make the playoffs and the guy shines during them.

As far as Aho is concerned at this point he’s our only consistent, puck moving defenseman and he did exactly that last night. Especially in the third period.

Yeah hopefully he gets it together but you have to think transitioning from the Leafs system to ours will take a little time. He’s in a contract year so he’s got a vested interest in doing well the rest of the way.

I think he'll be best utilized when everyone is healthy and he's playing on the third line with Pageau. He's not really cut out for a top line role.

What an ending last night though

Yep I agree. Getting Pageau back will add so much to our current lineup and Engvall belongs there with him. Last night was incredible. Team deserves a ton of credit for hanging in there.

It seems even bigger now that Ottawa beat Seattle. I'm no longer worried about Buffalo. They're playing hard but their goaltending is a mess.

I've watched the last few Ottawa games and they are really playing at a high level. Watching their power play highlights exactly what is wrong with ours. Their puck movement is so fast and deliberate. No player holds the puck for more than a second or two. It's just constant movement. As the old saying goes, you can't outskate a pass. That's the team I'm worried may catch us

Agreed. Getting Chychrun didn't exactly hurt their chances.

Didn’t they just lose 5-0 to the Blackhawks a few days ago?
