This might have something to do with why management is still making win-now moves. You have to convince this guy to stay. $14 mil market value if he keeps going the way he is.

There is a massive flaw in those player cards Not all players are the same.

It's not as if people don't realize that. They know that, what they realize is the team has a bunch of anchor contracts, no real help coming in the way of prospects unless a few make some large jumps in development. A lack of depth in the NHL team. A lack of high draft picks now. Always dealing from a place of desperation.

They are not helping their cap space situation. Fine with the move for Hronek, not really the price that was paid for him at the current state of the organization. 27th overall and 27th best prospect pool.

Make the moves at the right time and when the situation is right. As soon as they start to make moves in the right direction, they do something to put themselves back into the position they were before. Bottom of the league.

I look at it a bit differently, I do not believe for a minute this is dealing from a place of desperation, that is a fan/media driven statement. They make these moves when the opportunity presents itself.

There is this media/fan driven concept that there is a right time to make team improving moves when media/fans assign the timeframe.

This season is shot, there is nothing wrong with improving on personnel when those guys are available. When the next season starts they have the defenseman they wanted already accustomed to coaches, systems, teammates.

There are other ways to look at how and why transactions are thought out.

Do you think Stevie Y is out there thinking about how he can help Van out?

Why are they trading for Hronek then?
- manvanfan

More trades & maybe buyouts.

Completely agree. This and theyve been trying to land a RHD for a year, theyve been patient and got a guy they are obviously high on.

At first I hated the move. But, they are doing what they said. If this doesn't work it will be a full blow up. Also he's 25, RHD, if we still suck we can trade him next year to recoup a decent amount back. Its not like hes OEL who has insane negative value now.

It's a pretty legit question. Think it through from Detroit's perspective on why they make that trade. Two teams were involved.

I'm not sure you are following the same Canucks organization as me. Short cuts and when they don't work, more short cuts.

There is when you're overpaying for them. Especially as a bottom team giving up 1st rounders in a deep draft. If they snagged Hronek for a 2024 2nd rounder, everyone would be pretty ecstatic. I doubt this deal just "presented itself", and more like JR/PA chased it down.

And while it may not be a desperation move, it's an impatient move... one step above desperation.

This cycle has been going on for too long. Canucks have an need, they trade high pick to fill it, the results are a middling team, they need youth to replace aging/expensive players but traded away the picks that would be arriving at that time, so they fill their need by trading a high pick for it, etc. Point in case: the Canucks RHD is a sore need, clearly, and someone like Rasmus Andersson would be a great fit – but that pick was the pick they sent for Sven Baertschi. And on and on.

At least they are changing things up and targeting younger guys not vets. More speed / size. Trying to be hopeful lol

Cause hes a 25 yo rhd top4 defencemen that comes with contract control.

I get the consternation over getting Hronek for picks but ppl ignore that good young RHD rarely come up in trades. So fans jumping on giving up the picks really dgaf about ever fixing the D & think & say they can wait. I call bs if they honestly think they are serious waiting at least 6-8yrs on a maybe that drafting will be the best answer. Fans just don’t look around much & see how many teams are actual contenders which have good D in place & it took a long time to get there & not even guarantee a cup. Only 1 team outta 32 wins the war of 16 wins. None of those teams without a good goalie & solid back up get there.

It takes a top goalie or a very hot one & 3-4 good D & 2 C’s to even begin to dare believe a cup is a real chance.

We have the goalie & some very F pieces but D isn’t close & it’s time like has been for many years to fix it or waste more years of our best talent. JR said 2yrs & by that he meant to get chips in the game before contention can even be considered.

Andy Strickland

Hearing 6’7 Winnipeg Dman Logan Stanley has asked for a trade. Former 1st rounder is just 24 years old. Still no guarantee the team moves him. #GoJetsGo

Detroit made the decision to make that deal because Yzerman thought it was what he needed for his club. Allivin made the deal because it is what he thought his club needed.

Are you implying that PA made the deal to help out the Wings.

He will be in his prime, if we aren't competing by then trade him away. Rinse and repeat!

JT Miller appears to be playing tonight. Is this a demonstration of showcasing one last time before tomorrow? Anyone know which teams scouts are in the building tonight?

Hopefully Boeser has a great game and Minny takes him with them!

Yup and most here don’t realize that. There’s not one player in this core that would stay and it’ll take 10-15 years to rebuild into a strong playoff team if we decide to scorch it all down.
- I-own_da-Northwest

There are examples all over the NHL that teams take forever to go nowhere.

I disagree with bolded, and implying Hronek would be available for a 2nd in the summer is completely wishful pie in the sky thinking.

Yes there is a chance they could draft an NHL caliber defenseman, but there is also they don't.

Anyway enough from me, I am happy to welcome Hronek to the team, today
