Pretty sure it was stated in multiple press conferences by both Allvin and Rutherford.

I recall Jim Rutherford saying that it’s a lot more difficult than he thought it was going to be and it’s going to take time. I guess we’ll wait until mid summer when buyouts are complete to see how everything played out.

Sure, great. Again this does nothing to improve the prospect pipeline! They're not a playoff team, the timing of this deal is questionable. Stevie Y schooled JR & PA imo.

The hand is dealt, one would think they would try to fill that gap between 1st & 3rd for this draft. There were 9 D taken last year in the 2nd round, start filling the prospect pool ffs.

- VanHockeyGuy

As I said in my previous post, it's been decided that Petey and Hughes are in their prime and we don't have the time to wait for prospects to develop. Is it stupid? Absolutely. Is it the same poop we've been seeing for years? Yep.

I definitely have a lot of questions as to why Detroit is trading away a 25 year old RHD just as they're coming up and immediately after re-signing Larking long-term. Seems like a red flag to me, but hey, hopefully Hronek comes as advertised.

Not all that difficult if you are willing to pay up

Really like how the Bruins are loading up for a Cup run.

Gotta love how some teams know when it is time to go all in, and also hilarious to see teams go all in, when they are trash.

Go BRUINS GO.

If they’re gonna do it, then do it. They send out mixed messages. Now it’s a clearer picture though. They’re not rebuilding, they’re re-tooling and shooting for a competitive team in the near future. So be it. Good luck!

Oddly enough PA hasn't spoken to the media which hopefully suggests he's not done yet.

This organization man, I'll tell ya!

Edvinsson, Wallinder are pretty close. Walman, Maatta just signed. Smart to have 5 picks in the first two rounds of a deep draft. Probably changes franchise for the better in the next year or two.

From the last blog:

I don’t think the comments here reflect much knowledge in the player. I’ve followed him since a rookie and wanted us to trade for him . I didn’t think Detroit would ever do it.
- Shuswap Wap

It's not the player we're upset and/or confused about, it's the timing of the trade and the trading away of an extra 1st round pick acquired in the Bo trade and our 2nd rounder in a very deep draft. This seems to be a trade you wait to make in the summer when you know where NYI ends up. If they make the playoffs and the pick is in the 20s this year then yeah it's a great trade, if it's in the low teens or heaven forbid NYI crashes and the pick is an unprotected 1st in 24 that becomes a lottery pick, then you've just screwed yourself out of a high pick that could have got you an elite player on an ELC for 3 years leading into their prime. Again, it's clear the team is still intending to compete when everyone can see they need to tear it down to the foundation.

Messages are day by day.

Maybe the plan shows itself more in the next day or two.

Does trading for Hronek make trading JTM more or less likely? I'm very confused by the lack of direction of the club

Hronek is a good player. He's going to be expensive in 2 years. 7ish. We are a better team. Better move contracts. Thank you Jim Benning for OEL Holy man is that ever the worst trade in tram history

As you yourself have mentioned, both the Rangers and the Kings turnaround had nothing really to do with their high picks they recently had. Yes, it gave them depth but the guys who are getting results are not the young guys.

Personally, I’d rather go through the build through the draft route, but I don’t on the team.

It tells you there's no plan or it's a moving target from one week to another.

Florida Panthers Acquire:

Jared McCann · $894,167
2016 2nd round pick (VAN - #33 - Rasmus Asplund)
2016 4th round pick (VAN - #94 - Jonathan Ang)

Vancouver Canucks Acquire:

Erik Gudbranson · $3,500,000
2016 5th round pick (NYI - #140 - Cole Candella)

After this trade the Canucks still picked top 10 for two more seasons.

- manvanfan

Didn’t help to draft a 4th line bust and a D-man bust with the previous 5th and 6th overalls that we had(Virtanen & Joulevi).

There were plenty of indications that Joulevi was overrated… playing on the London knights w 3 players that were 2ppg. Getting most of the points with those 3(Dvorak, Marner, Tkatchuk) on the Powerplay.

Could have had Sergachev or Chychrun and Nylander.

This is very much part of it but those teams are also making the trades at better times.

Trading for Trouba, they upgrade Pionk and knew they were getting Fox. They also then drafted Miller and traded for Lindgren.

You are adding Hronek to Hughes. The rest of the D is pretty damn bad.

Rangers got rid of their contracts first not after, creating the cap space to make those things happen.

As I posted in the last blog, Drance pointed out the lack for forethought put into this trade. Why not protect that first from the Islanders? If it does switch to 2024, make the condition the Canucks give up the worse pick. It's not complex, it wouldn't have submarined the trade, and they could have avoided a potential disaster. But no, there's extra risk involved now. So dumb.

The OEL trade is the worst in a legacy of mistakes and (frank) ups by Benning. That contract is actively impeding the team from improving year over year.

I liked ALL trades so far.
Building around JTM, Petey and Huggie.

- Fidel

Thanks Michael,

I also liked the trades so far, I understand the complaints regarding trading of picks for Hronek but I myself do not believe in a complete tear down, I agree with building around Pettersson and Hughes but would like to move on from Miller.

Might as well if you’re not going to be patient and build through the draft.

The Myers signing was brutal too. The 5th and arguably 4th years were too much.

There is still so much shuffling and adding and subtracting to do.
