I think the rebuild is going very well. I think Adams is doing a solid job so far.

I’m pumping the brakes on saying he’s great or he’s proved anything other than being competent so far.

Sabres still have holes.

- sbroads24

He has his Plan, and is sticking to it, especially in view of the fact it is working.
The disconnect is expectations by some fans to be too high against that plan. Paul, you and a couple others want to accelerate it for immediate gratification...which I get because I too would love to see a Meier and Theodore type addition made now. But his Plan is on a different timeline in a quest to achieve sustained, long-term success...and he has been absolutely crystal clear about it.

His grade/rating will need to wait...but he has passed nearly every test to date when measured on his plan timeliness. I see some here will lower his grade based on their desired timeline. ..which doesn't make him wrong...just doesn't match some fan's desires.

Adams didn't acquire either of them, just signed them. It's a good move to do so, but if anything we should be talking up Botts for getting them. Adams' has gotten us Quinn, Peterka, Jost, Comrie, Lyubushkin, Clague, Savoie, Kulich, Ostlund. How he is looked at should be based on how those guys do, not just because he signed young guys to cheap deals before they've really done anything.
- Zschalberg

Adams could have also traded Tage prior to the breakout, he could have also waited till this offseason to sign him and he’d be making $10-11M a year instead of $7M.

It’s KAGM’s contract irregardless if he acquired the player or not.

He deserves credit for one of the best contracts in hockey…

Tage is the exception, the unicorn.
The rest are not as unfathomable.

Cozens, Dahlin, Power are the next level (Power was Adam's pick)...probably remarkable because the Sabres have flipped their script to become developmental experts led by Granato's and Appert's staffs. Before them, Development was piss poor.
Develop as fast as they did? Maybe not. But Develop, absolutely for sure, yes.

So by hiring those developmental expert Coaching Staffs, by slow playing thejr young guys...
YES, they planned for it.

- IonSabres

I'll give the credit for the development and hiring, but Adams walked into the job with the 1st overall pick and just had to not mess it up. Power was the consensus #1 so you don't get many points for just taking that guy.

I mean he could have drafted anyone he wanted at the end of the day right ?

I’ll be the first to admit I didn’t want Jack Quinn but so far it’s gone about as good as one could hope for post-draft.

Granato was hired by Botts. Sabres had there HC sitting next to Krueger the whole time. And Granato and Appert had a relationship before Buffalo at the USNDP. Think they had there HC fall into there laps more than planning.
- Buff36

Not in his current role as HC he didn't, no.
Adams hired Granato as his HC, period. It's his hire plain and simple. Color it what you want, but it doesn't change.

Now I will say, Adams has a very inclusive management style, which is different than others. He values the opinion of others and seeks it out (reportedly as I am not an insider)...we are witnessing the benefits of steering the ship, but empowering others to do their jobs.

Don't undervalue all that...it is critical.

And I'll give him that credit. But 1 good contract does not a great GM make. The Cozens contact could also be good, could also be mid. They're a middle of the pack team outside the playoffs with bad defense and no real defensive prospects to look on. So what he does with this team moving forward will determine how good of a GM he is. If we stick to the young guys and see how the season ends up it's not going to mean he's a bad GM. It will mean that he's putting his faith in development and if it's wrong it's just going to mean another middling year next year.

They have done a good job building the system and supplementing the roster.

The faces change but so far the results are the same. The team is different and it is a different roster setup, we're not trading the farm for players like 2015. But patience is thin after so much "suffering". Adams wants to wait and be patient, that's fine. But results need to come sooner than later.

Not coloring anything, Granato was right in front of him. Who knows if Granato is even a thought if he's not brought in by Botts. His plan is working with a lot of help. I am happy it's going as well as it is. I have not seen 1 post that is calling for anything that would destroy the foundation or future of this team in any trades brought up here, Well other than Boss's Ostlund trade.

Agreed. I'm just saying let's not build the statue until they at least make the playoffs. Or even get into a spot for once.

It would have been interim coach Matt Ellis or Adam Mair.

Man, are you a KA hater or what? How about his Eichel, Risto and Reinhart trades? Did those all suck too or simply fall into his lap?

What, I am not a Adams hater. You could go back to when he was hired and find my posts saying I thought it was a decent move. He's done some good stuff, doesn't mean Granato wasn't sitting right there. Can you tell me if Granato was not a coach at the time he would have gotten that chance as Interim Coach or even got a Interview for the HC job. Adams has Done a great job putting a good staff around him. No one could have seen the growth that has happened, his plan is working. Just as much luck in there as there is Planning.

I'll start pointing out your posts that destroy the foundation and future of this team.

Anything for either chyrim or meier.......

Both trades ruin the future.

Not at all, any hockey player you draft there is some luck in it, unless it's a Crosby McDavid type.
