Murphy is the far superior D. I liked McCabe but that deal was for too much money and term.
- Slump Buster

Only 2 years left after this year. Murphy has an extra year with 400k more per.

McCabe's chart is pretty incredible this year given the team he's on. Always has good advanced stats even though he's always been on poor defensive teams.

I don't think one is far superior to the other.

He was offseason?

Yep. July. Still a C grade. Didnt we make a second waiver claim besides Jost?

[quote=Sabretooth9]I get that We will see. The suitors for Timo have gone down since the rangers got taresenko

Chychrun
For
Johnson
Ohlund
2023 1st

And

Meier
For
Mittlestadt
Rosen
2023 2nd

- turbo044

I would say yes to both. But still Timo Meier RFA tender alone is 10 mill. The tender itself! Which is nuts

I believe it was rumored that we aren't interested in taking in any bad contracts. That's a bit disappointing - I'd like to see us weaponize that while we still have the space.

lines are normal today. Clague and Asplund benched

Wonder if Asplund is sent packing by TDL. Even when the guy plays he doesn't do anything anymore. There's a few guys in Rochester who might as well get looks in case of injury.

- TheSabresTaco

Best reason to keep Asplund, even if they never figure out how to use him this year, is to replace Girgs next season.

Every day they're both on the team together it looks more likely that is the case. Z train has had a distinct lack of physicality to me this year. He did outwork Dylan Larkin and seal up a win on an ENG, but I've seen few of those types of gritty plays from him this year in comparison to last year.

Edit: And, I don't think he's played dirty at all this season. It's always been part of his game. I haven't seen one dirty hit from him all season.

I'll ease up and give him an A.

But you're grading him as if he's supposed to be a top 4-6 defenseman. He was brought here to play in Rochester and get called up. In season he surpassed Pilut, Bryson (sorta) and Fitzgerald. Any player exceeding expectations, personally, deserve a high grade as a signing.

As a player, I mean yeah, C. He's a guy.

- TheSabresTaco

Agreed. Depth signing plays better than expected and earns a roster spot, that's an A.

It all depends on how long these bad contracts are still on the books. The Sabres are being smart with their internal cap, and if they are taking on bad contracts with term, I think that's an easy no unless there are some serious assets coming with those bad contracts.

If the Sabres are going to be adding real NHL players then they shouldn't be taking on bad contracts with the amount of players they already have on the roster.

This team could use Jake McCabe... and Murphy.
- DirtyDan

Easy pass on Jake McCabe.

How many McCabes do you want? We have Bryson pilut and Clauge who are basically the same player

You're kidding yourself....

None of those guys defend even half as well as McCabe.

McCabe checks several needs.

Defensive ability *check*
Physicality *check*
Ability to play up and down line up
PK
Physicality

The 3 you mentioned aren't anywhere near the player McCabe is

3rd pairing smaller mobile defensemen with some issues in their own end and decent offensive ability. McCabe didn’t want to be here and left. He was also always hurt.

Yeah same player. Sabres need a top 4 defensemen horse they can help samualsson, Dahlin, and power not burn out

Sure, absolutely. I think that most of the deadline deals are for rentals so we would only be taking on contracts for this year.

Not having to play Bryson minimal minutes would go a long way with helping them not burnout

Bryson is a defensive zone nightmare. He is a -17.

I don’t want him getting anymore minutes. Lybuskin has played better than him. Which that is saying A LOT.

Thats why I brought up McCabe as a defensive d-man... something we need... add in his physicality and he's someone we could use back here dearly.

Laugh if you want. If Girgs and Okposo didn't have tenure, and were treated as regular hockey players, they'd at least rotate out. Neither handle the workload well anymore.

I mean... who wouldn't.. The big thing is I love the guys physicality, Its something this team needs more of.

Glad KA has acknowledged they're keeping an eye on it. Even asked Okposo if they're getting pushed around to much

The Leafs have played 2 more games than us, and only have 5 more wins. Interesting.
